ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Orders laboratory tests, x-rays and special tests and dressing changes.
  • Reviews patient records to determine health status.
  • Notifies attending physician on call, house physician on call or supervising physician (or surgeon) regarding any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation.
  • Writes orders, including those of narcotics, stimulants and depressant drugs as necessary.
Departmental Essential Functions:
  • Regularly provides primary care independently or with attending physician and/or students, in accordance with generally accepted professional practice and JCAHO standards.
  • Provides and bills for primary care for a panel of patients only in the ambulatory setting relays any problems or concerns to physician. Writes progress notes in patient charts indicating patient status and treatment or procedures performed.
  • Provides care to patients in “walk in” or “urgent care” status as an essential support role for the practice.
  • Provides dressing changes as needed.
  • Provides care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Provides care appropriate to the adult patients served in this practice (structured mentoring can be provided)
  • Provides direct impactful care of patients suffering from the opioid crisis (Interest in team-based care is important.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Graduation from a Physician Assistant Training Program approved by the Board of Physician Quality Assurance is required
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required
  • Licensure by Maryland State Board of Physicians as a Physician’s Assistant is required
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and BLS by the American Heart Association
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification is required.
