Security Benefit is searching for an experienced Lead Scrum Master to join our team. The ideal candidate may work remotely but will be required to travel to our home office in Topeka, Kansas or our New York office periodically. Security Benefit associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

What Does the Job Look Like?

The Lead Scrum Master will play a pivotal role in driving Agile transformation at the organizational level, working closely with executive leadership to align Agile initiatives with strategic business objectives. This position will oversee multiple Agile teams, ensuring the successful delivery of initiatives while continuously improving our operating model. This exempt position reports directly to the Head of the Agile Center of Excellence.

As a Lead Scrum Master, you'll be responsible for:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Scrum Masters, providing guidance and support to ensure adherence to Agile principles and practices.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define the strategic vision for Agile adoption and transformation within the organization.
  • Develop and implement Agile frameworks, methodologies, and processes that align with strategic objectives and drive business value.
  • Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to define product scope, goals, deliverables, and prioritize initiatives.
  • Foster, as a change agent, a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Agile activities and ceremonies such as daily stand-up meetings, sprint reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning, and product backlog refinement sessions.
  • Identify and resolve impediments or conflicts that may hinder the progress of Agile teams.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the success of Agile initiatives and drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide regular reports and updates to executive leadership on the progress of Agile initiatives, highlighting achievements and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Assist the team in achieving operational excellence by leveraging Agile planning and development tools, such as JIRA and Confluence.
Who Are You?

If you are passionate about Agile practices, possess strong leadership skills, and are an effective mentor:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or related field (or equivalent years of experience).
  • Certification in Agile methodologies, such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM).
  • Proven experience (10+ years) as a Scrum or Agile Coach in a leadership role, with demonstrated experience working at the strategic level.
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles and methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, and Lean.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence, motivate, and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience working in a strategic capacity, with a track record of driving organizational change and transformation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think strategically and execute tactically.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, or other Agile work management tools.
  • Coach teams and individuals on agile values, mindset, and behaviors.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging tools in Agile and scrum.
  • In depth knowledge of Security Benefit & Zinnia products and services preferred.
  • Financial services industry experience preferred.
