With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.
This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital, 130 SC-252, Anderson, SC 29621.
As the Nurse Practitioner, Institutional, within scope of practice as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, and under the supervision of a psychiatrist, you will provide services to patients and serves as a part of a treatment team who provides evidenced based services in intensive treatment and rehabilitative services in accordance with the fidelity model. This is a single fixed point of responsibility for treatment, rehabilitation, and support needs for patients with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) who require higher levels of care and have not been well supported in lower level of care options.
Responsibilities for this Nurse Practitioner, Institutional include but are not limited to:
- Conducts psychiatric examinations and ongoing evaluations in order to diagnose and treat patient conditions. Conducts rounds in the care and treatment of assigned patients. Completes all documentation, legal, and administrative requirements for assigned caseload, including admission notes, progress notes, treatment plan documentation, discharge summaries, and other reports as necessary.
- Provides leadership in treatment planning and in treatment team meetings for assigned caseload. Collaborates with other disciplines in the identification of patient needs and interventions. Provides or makes referrals for necessary treatments.
- Screens referred patients for admission to HPH.
- Participates in both formal and informal clinical supervision with psychiatrist supervisor (s) as determined by clinical supervisor (s) and Medical Director.
- Attends and participates in medical staff and transition of care meetings. Participates in peer review and continuous quality management programs and initiatives, including participation in the identification of areas for improvement and in developing and implementing improved processes.
- Participates in psychiatric coverage at times of psychiatrist absence/shortage.
- Maintains clinical competency by mastering required mandatory and non-mandatory in-services or training, including MAPS, CPR, and SCEIS.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing at the master's level or doctoral level acceptable to the Board to include clinical experience. Licensure as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
A master's degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a registered nurse with official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner by the SC Board of Nursing, practicing in the extended role with prescriptive authority in the state of South Carolina. Related nursing experience.
Additional Comments
The selected candidate must have advanced experience/knowledge of psychiatric illnesses symptoms and psychotropic medications: ability to function in multi-disciplinary team. Advanced knowledge and application of nursing practice and supervision of such. Position is essential and may be called back for disasters/emergencies. Ability to lift, stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb stairs; provide emergency care to victims of cardiac and/or respiratory arrest and other emergencies; demonstrate safe and effective use of patient care equipment.
