The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) develops, monitors and manages operating and capital budgets for the University. Helps develop short and long-term financial goals and forecasts/models for key strategic initiatives and special projects. Working closely with departmental leaders across the institution, the SFA analyzes monthly, quarterly and year-end income statements variances (actual vs budgeted).The SFA leverages industry knowledge and best practices to promote the responsible resource allocation for a tuition-dependent institution. Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics or a highly analytical field required. Master's Degree in a related area preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a financial analyst or related area, or a Master's degree and three (3) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Higher education experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting, financial planning, financial analysis, and financial reporting
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), fund accounting, and grant accounting
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex business processes
- Demonstrated ability to leverage influence to drive change and influence stakeholders
- Ability to consistently identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations based on observations
- Proven ability to work in a highly diverse environment.
- Understanding of principles of finance and banking relationships and investments.
- Ability to balance multiple projects with competing deadlines.

Working closely with the CFO, AVP for Budget & Planning and Controller, the Senior Financial Analyst contributes to a variety of financial responsibilities, including:
- Support of the annual operating and capital budgeting process,
- Analysis of monthly financial statements with a written narrative on key budget variances,
- Regular updates of the projection for current year performance,
- Calculation of key financial metrics for internal and external stakeholders throughout the year,
- Evaluation of various programs and policies to clarify resource allocation decisions,
- Close consultation with departmental leaders to fully understand key revenue and expense drivers.
- Produces regular and ad-hoc financial and operating reports with recommendations and findings
- Provides internal financial support and advises on complex or technical economic issues
- Responsible for the analysis of various internal accounting reports and external comparative reports and benchmarks the best practices for implementation.
- Participates in monthly accounting closing process
- Assess, modify, and develop and implement processes/ procedures / systems to increase efficiency, accuracy, and data analytics insight.
- Analyze and update the allowance for doubtful accounts monthly
- Develops and maintains expert knowledge in the University's financial systems (including Colleague, Power BI, and Business Objects) and other databases to be able to extract and analyze data relevant to financial analysis and forecasting and to act as a point of contact for departments to assist in their accessing or understanding of financial reports
