Job Summary

The Paralegal supports our in-house legal counsel in all operations groups, including litigation, completing and maintaining facility and agency licensure, and responding to regulatory compliance matters. The paralegal will essential support in various litigation and licensure matters, ensuring smooth case flow and legal operations.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Paralegal certification required.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Should have 5+ years of paralegal experience in Texas civil litigation, preferably with experience in long term care or healthcare litigation.
  • Notary a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of legal terminology and principles required.
  • Must have extensive experience in supporting healthcare operations, including contract review and negotiation.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of federal and state healthcare regulatory requirements, including government healthcare programs, HIPAA/HITECH and other privacy and security laws, and fraud and abuse laws, in addition to a broad general background in regulatory requirements applicable to the healthcare industry.
  • Must have excellent judgment and communication skills
  • Must be able to manage a varied and high-volume workload, including legally sensitive matters.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team orientated fast-paced environment.
  • Detail oriented with exceptional analytical and organizational skills.
  • Possess sound judgment in decision making and prioritization of multiple deadlines.
  • Proficient communication skills both verbal and written
Essential Functions:

  • Analyze pertinent records to identify parties with knowledge and prepare chronological content.
  • Analyze billing records and calculate economic damages.
  • Draft form pleadings, discovery, and client status reports including medical treatment chronologies.
  • Correspond with clients, opposing counsel, and fact witnesses.
  • Manage license renewal and contract renewal for all facilities, agencies and branches.
  • Draft pre-trial documents including motions, responses, and replies
  • Maintains project/case files to track and monitor all legal projects.
  • Keeps the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel informed on status of relevant legal and compliance matters.
  • Organizes and indexes complex case files, contracts, employment agreements and corporate governance documents.
  • Conduct legal research, investigating facts, and independently prepare documents.
  • Prepares reports, correspondence, chronologies, case summaries for internal decision making and litigation/contract management.
  • Communicates with witnesses, experts, and outside counsel in preparation of discovery responses/productions, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Determines and calendars deadlines to help manage litigation, trademark registrations, state corporate filings, subpoena production, and other discovery responses.
  • Prepare mediation and settlement documentation
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Assists with various clerical duties required to support Legal departmental needs and functions
