Position Summary: The physician assistant (PA), under the direction of a supervising physician, will function as an independent healthcare provider working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care in a variety of settings (primary, acute, specialty) while demonstrating a high degree of clinical expertise. Provides direct individualized patient care and treatment with responsibility for assessing, examining, diagnosing and analyzing the patient's current health condition and developing short and long-term goals and treatment plans. Functions within the defined scope of clinical practice as outlined by applicable state law, licensing, certification, regulations, institutional policy and practice agreements. Physician assistants employed by Bozeman Health or affiliates will have a current MD supervision agreement and duties and delegations agreement (clinical privileges) in place as per Montana State Board of Medical Examiners requirements. Strong background in both inpatient orthopedic care and urgent orthopedic procedures, particularly in fracture management and joint dislocations. This role requires hands-on experience in orthopedic trauma, splinting and casting, as well as collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced hospital environment with indirect supervision from a supervising physician. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree of Physician Assistant Studies Board certification as Physician Assistant Montana Licensure (Physician Assistant) DEA License if applicable to practice area American Heart Association BLS Preferred: Additional training if relevant to practice area A minimum of 4 years of experience in orthopedic inpatient hospital care is preferred and previous work in an urgent care or emergency setting, dealing with acute orthopedic injuries. ATLS Certification or within 6 months of hire. Essential Job Functions: In addition to the essential functions of the job listed below, employees must have on-time completion of all required education as assigned per DNV requirements, Bozeman Health policy, and other registry requirements. Provides quality, efficient and effective evidence based patient care, consultation as requested, advisement and/or initiation of treatment plans while following standard of care within specialty scope of practice. Directs patient care by examining, diagnosing and analyzing the patient's current health condition, performing comprehensive admission history and physical exams, consultative notes, admission and discharge summaries, progress notes, writing orders and prescriptions and performing and or assisting with procedures and providing assistance with operative cases per defined scope of practice for specialty area. Financially responsible for all aspects relating to transcription/coding. Key Responsibilities- Trauma & Emergency Care: o Experience in trauma care and tertiary assessments of orthopedic injuries. o Manage acute orthopedic conditions in an urgent care or emergency room setting, including fracture stabilization, joint reduction, and urgent interventions. o Proficient in applying and adjusting orthopedic devices, including splints, casts, braces, and orthotics. o Strong patient education skills, with a focus on orthopedic conditions and post-care instructions. o Function independently with indirect supervision to perform clinical assessments, make treatment decisions, and implement care plans. o Conduct daily rounds on hospitalized patients with or at the direction of the supervising physician, ensuring comprehensive orthopedic evaluation and management. o Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing, case management, therapy, wound care, and other providers to ensure coordinated care delivery. o Assist in discharge planning, ensuring patients have the appropriate follow-up care and devices as needed. The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts. On-call work may be required to respond promptly to organizational, patient, or employee needs. Vision (Continuously): Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures and to read computer screens, printed materials, and handwritten materials. Cognitive Skills (Continuously): Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, and make timely decisions in the context of a workflow.
