Schedule: Flex Shifts/ Weekend Hours/ Holiday Hours
Position DescriptionPerforms tasks and responsibilities within the framework of case finding, health teaching, health counseling and provision of supportive and restorative care under the direction of a registered professional nurse and the treatment team.
Experience
- One (1) year Hospital Experience required.
- Two (2) year Addiction Services/Med/Surg Nursing Experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited program for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Currently licensed and registered as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of New York.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of addictions and 12-Step Programs
- Ability to participate in Performance Improvement projects.
- Demonstrates a commitment to continued professional development.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Acute care experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support ("BLS") certification required.
- Able to work effectively with others and delegate responsibility to allied nursing personnel.
- Demonstrates appropriate oral and written communication skills.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift or assist in lifting a client from bed to chair standing or vice versa.
- Must be able to respond quickly and effectively communicate orally in an emergent situation.
- Must be able to use stairs in an emergent situation.
- Must be able to walk, carry semi-heavy equipment and reach overhead.
- Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with clients or associates.

As part of Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) combines the best in academic and community medicine, improving access to advanced medical care for residents of the North Fork and Shelter Island. With 70 beds, SBELIH is Suffolk County’s first hospital, serving the North Fork since 1905.
