Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Think through complex features and flows, balance user needs and business needs, and make the complex feel simple.
  • Work under the guidance of a lead UX designer, while still having ownership over his or her work. Own the discovery, definition and execution of multiple features or a single epic.
  • Follow an iterative design process to wireframe, prototype, and validate design ideas.
  • Understand established design patterns, and know when to follow them and when to break them.
  • Modernizing and enhancing advisor experiences to facilitate better client outcomes.
  • Understand how to leverage qualitative and quantitative research insights to inform design decisions, and how to design an MVP with a longer term vision in mind.
  • Responsible for establishing a systematic interaction design language across systems and platforms, and will help define and drive the future of Northwestern Mutual product experience.
  • Develop deep partnerships with product, engineering and interconnected teams.
Qualifications
  • A self-starter who is user-focused, detailed, and solutions-oriented.
  • Degree in a design focused program preferred, but will consider work experience.
  • Expert knowledge of the fundamentals of user-centered design, visual design, brand development, and how products are put together. 4+ years of experience in a design practice.
  • An extreme passion for understanding the user, and a strong communicator of the user's perspective throughout the design process.
  • An understanding that UX is more than just UI, but includes all user-centered design activities from research, concepting, flows, sitemaps wireframes, prototypes, annotations, and more.
  • A strong online portfolio available for viewing.
  • An ability to operate in a complex environment with ambiguity.
  • Experience with Figma, Mural and other white boarding tools.
  • Experience using Jira and/or Confluence is preferred, but not required.


Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$100,030.00

Pay Range - End:

$185,770.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
