Job Summary
The Patient Advocate works proactively to prevent patient concerns and responds to concerns and grievances. Helps patient and families cope with the complex environment by explaining policies, connecting families with appropriate staff, answering questions, or assisting with problem solving. Acts as a personal link to hospital and ensures that the rights of a patient/family are respected. This role may be required to work evening shifts and weekends.

Pay Range
Minimum $19.54 Midpoint $25.90 Maximum $32.24

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

• Required: Minimum three (3) years of health care patient relations experience.

Education

• Preferred : Bachelor's degree or 4 years additional experience in lieu of education.

Training

• Required: None required.

Specialized Skills

• Required: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking and crisis intervention skills required. Proficiency in Excel, Word and comparable software. Must demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to participate in age appropriate communication with patients served in the hospital. Must demonstrate basic knowledge of principles of growth and development and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their needs. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to work effectively with the primary population of patients and families served by CHOC. Must demonstrate ability to interact with angry patients, family members, physicians, associates or others, validating concerns and deescalating anger effectively.

• Preferred: Bilingual strongly preferred; knowledge of medical terminology.
