The incumbent monitors and tracks the progress of designated projects and provides routine reports of accomplishments to appropriate project manager. Reviews designs, plans and specifications to ensure structural safe facilities. Provides professional consultations on a wide range of difficult and unforeseen problems on design interfaces, repairs, designs, and construction. Reviews preliminary and final engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates of architect and engineering (A/E) firms or another government agencies to ensure design excellence and compliance with specifications. Uses computers/computer software such as information management programs, computer aided design and drafting (CADD) programs, and project tracking programs to solve engineering problems and facilitate work. Monitors and manages projects for new construction, renovations, and improvements to residential quarters facilities from start to finish, including the performance of preconstruction site surveys all the way to the completion of as-built drawings. Provides expert professional technical assistance and guidance to DFSM staff and school personnel regarding their maintenance, repair, renovation, or new construction work. Assists in analyzing the critical path schedule for design and construction projects. Prepares, reviews, and approves project documents including building and systems designs, estimates, specifications, and bid packages. Administers or assists in administering acquisition documents for design, construction, renovation, or repair. Performs engineering and project management work to protect life, safety, health, and property.
