Job Description

Job Description

Principal Backend Engineer - Software IoT

Remote, Hybrid or In-Office in Oregon 8AM-5PM PST

We are set up for remote employees working in OR, CA or KY.

Our company:

Rigado is a leading provider of edge connectivity solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT), offering reliable, low-power, and scalable wireless communication systems. We empower businesses to build smarter, more connected environments, focusing on delivering secure and efficient IoT solutions across a range of industries, from smart buildings to industrial automation.

At Rigado, we challenge ourselves to be curious and creative, while having fun working as a team. Come join us on our mission to bring new technology and innovation to the markets we serve.

Principal Backend Engineer:

We're building a distributed system in Go (Golang) to manage devices on the edge, so our systems must function effectively in the absence of a fat, stable pipe between the server and the client. The system extends from the backend in the cloud down to actual management devices, so we've got software, firmware, and hardware engineers all working in tandem. No experience with the other areas of engineering required for this software position; what IS required is that your interest is piqued to learn more about them

You will join the Edge Direct team to help build out our cloud management platform. You’ll work directly with the VP of Software Engineering and the VP of Product to design and execute on the Edge Direct roadmap. Our distributed team spans the U.S. and Europe, with optional offices in Salem, OR, and Portland, OR. We prefer 4 hours of overlap with the Pacific time zone.

What Makes you Successful in this Role at Rigado:

  • Curiosity, empathy, ownership, and a fondness for collaboration

  • Eagerness to learn from and teach fellow engineers and non-engineers alike

  • Ability to build excellent products for customers and dive into unfamiliar technologies and challenges

You should have experience with:

  • Designing and building distributed systems, AKA “Microservices” architecture

  • Experience building production systems in Golang

  • Designing and supporting public facing REST APIs

  • X509 Certificates and PKI

  • Understanding of networking (OSI, TLS, HTTP)

  • Building on RabbitMQ or similar message broker stacks

  • SQL (Bonus for PostgreSQL)

  • Metrics, monitoring, and alerting to ensure system health

  • Continuous integration and automation (CI/CD)

  • Building from requirements and/or concept to production

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience at a startup

  • Familiarity with Linux (embedded or otherwise)

  • Experience with Azure and/or Kubernetes

Education and Experience Requirements:

B.S. Degree, preferably in a technical field, plus 10+ years of on the job experience. OR, 12+ years working in tech, with experience in a similar role.

Benefits:

  • Health Insurance (Vision, Dental, Medical)
  • 20 days of flexible paid time off (PTO) per year
  • 13 company holidays
  • 401K - (Rigado contributes 3%, regardless of your contribution)
  • Wellness reimbursement up to $100/month
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Salary will be based on skills, qualifications, and experience
