The role you’ll contribute:

The Respiratory Therapist, practicing under the clinical direction of the physicians and administrative direction of the Practice Leader, provides appropriate care, evaluation and treatment for patients with breathing and/or cardiopulmonary disorders. Performs inpatient and outpatient pulmonary diagnostic testing at a high level of proficiency, such as spirometry, lung volumes, flow volume loops, single breath diffusing capacity, complete cardio-pulmonary exercise testing, metabolic measurements, arterial punctures bronchial provocation testing, oxygen titration, 6-minute walk, to assist physicians in both the diagnosis and in guiding therapy of patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. The Technologist also performs daily essential blood gas laboratory duties to include daily blood gas analyzer maintenance, daily critical value log reports, perform daily laboratory Q & A to meet regulatory standards. The technologist also provides proficiency training validation for all clinical staff to include bedside spirometry and blood gas procedures. The technologist performs Pulmonary Rehabilitation instruction. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Adheres to AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

Job Duties:

  • Administers breathing and oxygen procedures such as nebulizer treatments

  • Prepares and tests devices used such as pulmonary equipment, breathing devices and oxygen supplies

  • Sets equipment controls to regulate the flow of oxygen

  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments, documents appropriately and completely

  • Assesses patients' responses to treatment and modifies treatment if necessary, monitors patients during treatments and reports and unusual reactions to physician or appropriate staff members

  • Explains test and technique to patient before administering pulmonary tests

Qualifications

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Current Florida State License as a Certified Respiratory Therapist, Registered Respiratory Therapist Preferred.

  • Current BLS required. ACLS must be obtained within 90 days of employment

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

  • RRT Registered Respiratory Therapist Preferred.

  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technician (CPFT) credential preferred. Required within 12 months of hiring or placement into the position
