About the Department:

The City of Tukwila's Parks and Recreation Department is home to 159 acres of parks, 12 miles of trails, Foster Golf Links, and the Tukwila Community Center. The department develops and maintains parks and facilities, and offers a wide range of recreational events, programs, and services for all ages.

The Tukwila Recreation Department is currently hiring for a Recreation Leader in our Youth/Teen Programs. The Seasonal Recreation Program Recreation Leader position assists and supports our Youth and/or Teen Recreation Programs. Typical schedule is 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm Monday-Friday for youth and teen after school programs with occasional evenings as needed. (This position is temporary seasonal and will not exceed 1040 hours in a 12-month period).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with general supervision of teen programs.
  • Safeguards program participants and provides for a clean and safe working environment.
  • Maintains and oversees the proper use of equipment and supplies by participants.
  • Completes and maintains proper forms, reports, and information for recreation staff.
  • Enforces facility, equipment, and program rules and regulations, taking appropriate corrective action with participants when necessary.
  • Assist with planning, scheduling, and organizing of various teen events and activities.
  • Other duties vary based on specific responsibilities for each position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

(A) Friendly, positive and supportive customer service skills to respond to public inquiries regarding programs and activities;
(B) Physical ability sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position;
(C) Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing;
(D) Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with program participants, volunteers, and the general public;
(E) Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
Education, Experience and Other Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

(A) Minimum of 16 years old;

(B) Currently enrolled in High School, and satisfactory progress while enrolled is required, or possess a High School Diploma or GED;

(C) Strong interest and ability to lead activities in art, sports and games for youth;

(D) Previous knowledge and experience with youth programs curriculum, policies and procedures desired.

Special Requirements:

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License/ID. Must be physically capable of assisting and participating in physical activities. Maintain current CPR/First Aid certifications, or the ability to obtain prior to employment.
