Snowflake Database Administrator

Role Definition:

As a Snowflake Database Administrator, you will be primarily responsible for ensuring the integrity, security, and performance of the Data platform that supports the data needs of various business units and functions.

You will work closely with the Enterprise Data Governance team and the Business Governance team to follow the standards and principles of data management and governance.

You will also collaborate with data engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders to provide data solutions that meet the business requirements and objectives.

What You Wil Do:
  • Manage and monitor the Snowflake platform, including data ingestion, data transformation, data quality, data security, and data access.
  • Apply the principles and policies that have been agreed with the Business Governance team regarding data source ingestion, database functional organization, and access management.
  • Implement and enforce best practices for data modeling, data architecture, data governance, and data lifecycle management.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or incidents related to the Snowflake platform and provide root cause analysis and recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to data users and consumers and ensure that they have the appropriate access and permissions to the data they need.
  • Review and approve code changes as part of the CI/CD process.
  • Maintain and update our CI/CD Python package as required.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Data Lakes to ensure efficient data flows.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments and trends in Snowflake and other data technologies and evaluate and recommend new features or tools that can enhance the data capabilities and performance.
  • Lead actions to maintain the infrastructure of IT systems that support the business to function efficiently.
  • Guide the design solutions by assessing and aligning the current systems to best practices and comply to federal policies and procedures.
  • Execute the middleware application server and automated workflow tools, work with server virtualization technologies.
  • Administer updates, upgrades, and other maintenance tasks in both hardware and software areas, to make the network more efficient, cost-effective, and secure.
What You Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Snowflake Database Administrator, or a similar role in data management and administration.
  • Strong knowledge and skills in Snowflake, including data ingestion, data transformation, data security, data access, and data optimization.
  • Experience with data governance and data quality frameworks and tools, such as Data Catalog, Data Lineage, Data Dictionary, and Data Profiling.
  • Experience with SQL and scripting languages, such as Python, JavaScript, Shell, or PowerShell.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Certification in Snowflake or other data technologies is a plus.

Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

  • Evaluates interoperability of new systems with existing systems during the beta testing phase.
  • Supervises the testing of complex, multi-platform, and distributed applications.
  • Designs processes to ensure that the system meets and maintains requirements and expectations.
  • Coaches end users on the development of test data and test scenarios for system validation.
  • Manages the execution of test plans, including resources, strategies, schedules, processes, and tools.
Systems Software Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and system software interaction; ability to design and build a fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers, and other development tools.

  • Analyzes the local software architecture components and products.
  • Tests key features for the entire software infrastructure environment.
Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools, and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.

  • Emphasizes the business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution so that problems can be avoided in the future.
  • Creates trouble reports for all issues found and reviews solutions for completeness and correctness.
  • Directs the resolution of communications problems in multi-vendor environments.

  • Coaches' others on advanced diagnostic techniques and tools for unusual or performance-related problems.
