Superior Completion Services is currently seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer - Completion Tools for our Completion Office in Houston, TX. The Sr. Design Engineer will be Responsible for the design, qualification, and engineering maintenance of downhole completion tools by developing drawings, and system layouts, performing engineering calculations, generating engineering specifications, and testing methods. Utilize core product and industry knowledge to manage new product developments through concept, testing, and commercialization and make decisions on product line maintenance. Provide mentorship, guidance, and direct supervision to junior design engineering personnel while managing larger development projects. The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, able to work in a quick-paced environment, and will be responsible for Preparing and reviewing engineering documents for prototyping and production; providing support to the Design Engineering Group during prototype testing of equipment; providing technical support for manufacturing and operations; and troubleshooting failed equipment or processes. The ideal candidate will have design experience developing downhole completion tools to meet industry standards such as API 11D1, API 19V, API 19ICV, API 19AC, etc. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Uses learned Design Engineering principles to design and modify downhole completion tools and equipment. Perform detailed engineering calculations and analysis on new designs and existing equipment. Develop conceptual designs for new products from design specifications. Design, direct, and/or review the construction of layouts of possible designs and make “best choice” recommendations. Ensure that manufacturing drawings are consistent with the working layouts for product designs. Assist in assembly and lab testing of prototypes. Draft documentation of new products. Provide expert-level technical assistance to manufacturing, assembly, clients, and operation personnel. Check drawings and approve them. Initiate, check, and approve change notices, test requests, and write test reports. Disposition of rejected parts. Mentor, guide, and supervise the work of junior designers, engineers, and drafters. Manage large research and product development projects from concept to product release. Provide leadership and recommendations to the department’s Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, operation, and product development. TECHNICAL SKILLS Knowledge, competency, and experience in practical application of mechanical engineering practices. Fully proficient at expert level in performing detailed engineering analysis of new designs and required calculations. Hands-on mechanical aptitude in the assembly and qualification of prototype designs. Expert-level knowledge of core products and current practices, technology, and materials used in the oil and gas industry. Fully proficient in MS Office software. Fully proficient in Solid Modeling and drafting software and drafting principles. Familiar with manufacturing techniques. Develop and manage engineering development project timelines. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE A bachelor’s degree in engineering from a four-year college or university is required. Additionally, a minimum of ten years of experience in the design of equipment (preferably in the oil and gas industry) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
