Job Title: Shipfitter Job Description We are currently seeking an experienced shipfitter to join our team. The shipfitter will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing structural components and systems on ships and marine vessels. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of shipbuilding principles, be proficient in reading blueprints and technical drawings, and possess excellent welding and metalworking skills. Responsibilities Prep, layout, fit, finish, and repair complex fabrications to work packages per product specifications and production schedule under the guidance of the shop superintendent. Perform fit test evaluation by cutting a 13” circle out of an 18 1/8” plate, beveling the circle at 22 ½ degrees, fitting the circle back into the plate flush with a ¼” root opening, and strong backing it to the back side so that it is ready for weld. Fabricate, assemble, and install structural components and systems on ships and marine vessels. Bring and use personal tools, including tape measure, square, center punch, hammer, striker, and grinder. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. Proven experience as a shipfitter or similar metalworking role (iron working, structural steel, etc.), with at least 5 years in a maritime or shipbuilding environment. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications. Strong welding and metalworking skills, including experience with various welding processes (arc welding, MIG welding, TIG welding). Familiarity with shipbuilding materials, tools, and equipment. Knowledge of shipbuilding principles and practices. Attention to detail and precision in workmanship. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Currently, we are working four 10-hour shifts with an 8-hour mandatory overtime shift on Friday until workload catches up. There are 1st and 2nd shift openings with a 10% differential for working 2nd shift. 1st shift starts at 6am and 2nd shift starts at 4pm. Work is conducted in a government facility.
