DEFINITION
Lead and/or monitor a variety of recreation activities at a facility or for a special event and responsible for the overall cleanliness and look of the Recreation Center.
Examples of Duties
- Serve as a representative of the City of Mesquite, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public.
- Lead and/or monitor various activities in arts and crafts, sports and games.
- Promote neighborhood and community recreation events.
- Request, issue, and monitor the return of playground and athletic equipment; check equipment for proper care and use.
- Compile simple written records related to assigned programs or facility.
- Responsible for the day to day cleanliness of the Recreation Center by performing light facility maintenance and custodial duties including, but not limited to lifting, sweeping, disposing of waste, vacuuming, and washing windows.
- May assist, with various programs. These duties may include supervision, coaching, umpiring, refereeing, score keeping or others.
- Assist in enforcing Recreation Center policies to the patrons.
- Be dependable and meet acceptable attendance requirements at all times.
- Follow all applicable safety rules and regulations.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
A.May be asked to help operate the Recreation Center receptionist area when needed.
B.May be asked to assist with the operation of the slide during the operation of the outdoor pool.
C.Perform other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- First aid and safety practices.
- Knowledge of City and Department policies and procedures, federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations and licensing requirements.
- Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
- Read, write, and speak the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.
- Lead a variety of recreation activities.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to recognize, avoid, report, and resolve unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries, complaints, special requests, safety conditions, security issues and illegal activities within scope of authority.
- Work a flexible schedule which will include some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience which provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Education: Must be at least 16 years old.
Training: Training may be required such as:
- American Red Cross Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation/First Aid & AED Certifications.
- Signs & Symptoms of Illness.
- Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Recognizing & reporting child Abuse & Neglect.
- Must possess at the time of employment and continuously throughout employment a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain, the following certifications within three (3) months of hire:
- American Red Cross Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications AND
- Automated External Defibrillator (AED) OR equivalent.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed under the following conditions:
Work is generally performed in an office or outdoor environment. Duties require sufficient mobility to use standard office equipment; sustained posture in a seated position, standing and/or waking for prolonged periods of time; frequent bending, twisting, reaching, stooping and climbing; vision to read and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Travel to off-site facilities. Work a flexible schedule, depending on programs needs, including working evenings, weekends and shifting assignments. Respond physically to emergencies quickly and appropriately; lift, push, pull, move, set up and remove tables, chairs, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
Position is considered safety sensitive and is subject to drug testing.
