Teen Program Assistant

Position Summary:
Provide direct supervision of our diverse participants. Provide a quality experience to participants focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide safe supervision of participants
- Implement program activities in a manner that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values
- Provide support and run some Teen Program weekly meetings.
- Travel to local schools and run club meetings as needed.
- Provide a welcoming, fun, engaging environment in our teen center.
- Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards
- Follow YMCA policies, practices and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies
- Maintain positive relations with participants and other staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Occasional weekend work.
- Aged 21+ applicants get Mini-Bus Driver certified.
- Be able to work Summer Camp during the Summer months.
- Minimum age 18
- Fluency in second language desired
- Build relationships with a diverse membership base in culturally responsive ways, connect members with one another and to the YMCA

- Complete required training and certifications within established guidelines
- Arrive on time ready for shift, clock in/out within timekeeping system

Physical Demands:
As directed, lead and participate in a range of activities in outdoor/indoor settings. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise program. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Requirements
- The Teen Assistant will primarily oversee the Teen Center which is open every day after school.
- Supervising the Teen Center will include running age appropriate activities, building relationships with the Youth, recruiting for Teen Programs, and focusing on growth of the Teen Department.
- Growth of the Teen Department includes creating posters for the Teen Center and teen programs, engaging teens around the facility, and creating fun and engaging activities during teen center hours.
- In addition to supervising the Teen Center, the Teen Assistant will work with other Teen Staff to provide support during our various Teen programs after the Teen Center closes.
- The Teen Assistant will be knowledgeable on all teen programs and opportunities the Y has to offer.
- Aged 21+ Teen Assistant will get YMCA mini Bus certified.
- Teen Assistant schedule will largely be Monday-Friday after school between 2:30-7:00pm with occasional weekend events and a up to 2 overnight trips. 1 Teen Late Night event per month where we stay at the Y until 11:00pm.
- Teen Assistants will transition to Summer Camp work when the Teen Center closes for the Summer.
- Teen Assistants will work with the Teen Lead to ensure that our Teen Center and after school clubs are staffed.
- Teen Assistants will get to exercise their creativity in running teen programs and programming the Teen Center Drop in times.
