As a member of the Metrology team, you will implement world-class inspection systems for improving quality of the highest-performance batteries in the world. You will work closely with process, automation, and analytical teams to develop and deploy solutions on our manufacturing line as we rapidly scale.
What you will do:

  • Design, develop, and deploy R2R/web inspection solutions for high velocity, continuous measurements, and quality control.
  • Lead procurement of high-throughput inspection equipment working with established vendors in this space (e.g. Dr. Schenk, Keyence, NDC, ).
  • Ensure efficiency, uptime, and accuracy of metrology systems.
  • Participate in developing measurable product and component specifications that lead to improved yield and performance.
  • Develop techniques for identifying and reducing product defects.
  • Configure software and integrate metrology data and results into our manufacturing databases.
Knowledge, skills & abilities:
  • Experience specifying, installing, and configuring inspection and imaging processing systems.
  • Understanding of statistical process control and measurement systems analysis as part of a manufacturing line.
  • Proficiency with computer vision systems.
  • Have a passion for mentoring and learning.
  • A good communicator and enjoy working as part of a collaborative team to tackle complex challenges.
  • Share a real passion for our mission.
Minimum requirements:
  • PhD in mechanical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, physics, or a related field; or M.S. with 3+ years of experience; or B.S. and 5+ years related experience.
  • Hands-on experience with design and integration of computer vision systems in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong understanding and practical knowledge of measurement systems analysis, statistical process control, and design of experiments.
Highly desired:
  • Previous experience in roll-to-roll/web processing and linescan inspection systems.
  • Experience, familiarity with Python and/or JMP for image and data analysis or other programming languages for image and data analysis such as ImageJ, C++, C#, OpenCV package.
  • Experience with 3D CAD.


This position is required to perform these above essential duties and responsibilities onsite at our QS offices.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary range for this role has a range of $123,900 to 165,600 , but a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other exciting perks.
