Position: Occupational Therapist
Reports to: Principal/Department Supervisor

I. General Responsibilities

The occupational therapist is responsible for the implementation of occupational therapy services for identified students.
II. Examples of Duties
A. Evaluation

1. Utilizes appropriate assessment tools to evaluate fine and gross motor skills for individual students.

2. Recommends students for therapy services based on established criteria.

3. Writes appropriate IEP goals and objectives based on motor assessments.
B. Services

4. Provides direct motor therapy to students in individual or group settings.

5. Provides integrated motor therapy within classroom environment.

6. Provides consultation to classroom teachers, nurses, paraprofessionals and IEP Teams.

7. Provides training for staff regarding individual motor, physical and self-care needs of students.

8. Provides information to parents for home exercise programs.
C. Organization and Management

1. Sends physician referral letters to parents annually.

2. Physical therapy implemented only following receipt of physician orders.

3. Keeps student IEPs and therapy records current and organized.

4. Establishes therapy schedule based on needs of students as reflected on IEPs.

5. Attends IEP meetings and team meetings throught the year.

6. Holds IEP meetings for motor only students.

7. Completes required reports for Third Party Billing.

8. Completes written reports and follows procedural guidelines as set forth by Director and Special Education Coordinator.

9. Determines equipment needs and reports to supervisor.

10. Uses check-in, check-out system for transferring equipment within the District.
B. Professional Relations

1. Demonstrates sound professional judgment.

2. Maintains a positive attitude.

3. Interacts positively with other staff members.

4. Interacts positively with community and parents.

5. Meets assigned District and department responsibilities.

6. Works to complete department, District and Board of Education goals.
E. Professional Growth and Development

1. Completes required Continuing Education Units to maintain licensure.

2. Maintains professional growth and development.
III. Qualifications

Valid Kansas License.
