Manufacturing Engineer

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for ensuring that products conform to the initial design intent, are manufacturing friendly, meet safety/cost targets, and labor standards. In addition, this position is responsible for establishing procedures, creating jigs/fixtures, and designing tools for the various departments within the company. All tasks are performed in the most cost efficient and safe manner, in accordance with company standards, and with available resources in order to maximize profitability. The candidate will work on multi-disciplinary project teams in a concurrent environment with members of other
functional groups and departments.

Specific Accountabilities (not in order of priority):

  1. This role is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of the capital plan by providing engineering expertise in methods, estimations, and technology as it pertains to manufacturing requirements. In addition this position is responsible for maintaining and controlling approved expenditure levels.
  2. This role will be responsible for contributing to the systemic tools (ERP or other business tools as directed), processes regarding those tools and implementation/training of those business applications as required.
  3. Responsible for directing the continued review of present systems/methods and the formulation of new/revised systems to determine appropriate changes to reduce costs and enhance efficiency. This is achieved through the analysis of activities, costs, operations and forecast data to determine department progress toward stated goals and objectives.
  4. This position is accountable for ensuring that the required level of on plant floor service is provided in the area of manufacturing engineering for the facility.
  5. Accountable for assigning, coordinating and reviewing the technical work of the department or project teams, as well as assisting in developing policies, standards and procedures for the various departments throughout the company
  6. To work together with cross-disciplinary project teams to collectively solve product issues concerning manufacturability and quality.
  7. To prepare complete and accurate technical documentation for developed product (work instructions, part labeling, training documents, etc.). As well as, other supporting documentation of all technical aspects of the product using a common database and complying with StudioTK's procedures and internal standards.
  8. To cooperate with industrial designers, procurement, and manufacturing to provide documentation and other information required for effective launch of products into full production.
  9. To provide engineering knowledge and expertise to other departments in the organization.
  10. To continue to acquire knowledge of industry standards in manufacturing, materials, technology, and engineering practices.
  11. To create jigs / fixtures for the assembly processes.
  12. To update and maintain the plant floor layout using CAD.
  13. Lead efforts to address and resolve complex product and process issues affecting manufacturing. As well, provide training to the manufacturing team on process updates.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements:
  • University Degree in Engineering - Manufacturing, Mechanical, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years engineering experience in product design/implementation in a manufacturing environment ( in consumer goods preferred )
  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and materials (ie plastic, wood, foam, etc.)
  • Good project and time management skills, experience in handling multiple projects
  • Strong 3D modeling software and detail design skills (AutoCAD preferred)
  • Very good communication (verbal and written), presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both in diverse multidisciplinary team environment as well as individually with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to spend majority of role on the plant floor supporting production on a day-to-day basis.
  • Possible domestic and international travel (as needed) based on projects
