Speech - Language Pathologist

Primary Purpose
Plan and provide speech-language pathology services, including evaluations, as required to assist students with disabilities to benefit from special education.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Master's degree or higher in speech-language pathology or equivalent from an accredited/approved college or university program, and Valid Texas license as a Speech-Language Pathologist granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology, and CCC or TEA certification in Speech-Language Pathology
- Master's degree or higher in speech-language pathology or equivalent from an accredited/approved college or university program, and Valid Texas license as an Intern in Speech-Language Pathology (CFY) to practice under supervision of CCC-SLP while completing the post-master's degreed 36 week full-time internship
- Bachelor's degree or higher in speech-language pathology or equivalent from an accredited/approved college or university program and Valid Texas license as a Speech-Language Pathologist granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology, and TEA certification in Speech-Language Pathology
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and demonstrated competency in: speech-language pathology evaluation and therapy procedures for communication disorders; education of diverse student populations; and human development and learning theories
- Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
- Openness to change and innovation to meet the needs of all students
Minimum of one year supervised clinical speech-language pathology experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional strategies to promote student growth
- Conduct speech-language evaluations/reevaluations of students referred through special education and provide a written evaluation report for assigned students.
- Provide speech-language therapy services according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology, CCISD board policies, and administrative guidelines.
- Plan and provide direct and consultative speech-language pathology services consistent with speech and language goals and objectives contained in the student's IEP for assigned students.
- Work with other members of general and special education staff and administrators to determine present levels of performance, as well as, goals and objectives for determined areas of need.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student's progress, keep therapy logs for sessions recording progress data, and use results to plan and implement therapy.
- Review existing therapy data and conduct assessments to determine readiness for dismissal of speech-language pathology services.
- Work cooperatively with the campus and district instructional supervisors, coordinators, and department leads to improve therapy services.
- Integrate the instruction of technology into subject area instruction and use available technologies as appropriate therapy and learning tools.
- Plan and supervise assignments of speech-language pathology assistants, students, and interns.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Maintain a professional and cordial relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines regarding confidentiality.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with students, parents, and other staff members.
- Respond to parent phone calls/messages in a timely manner.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
- Create an instructional therapy environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the CCISD Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
- Provide for care and protection of school property and be held accountable for books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Maintains accurate student attendance, therapy session data records, and evaluation reports and protocols in compliance with local and state requirements.
- Assists in upholding and implementing administrative regulations and board policy.
- Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.
- Account for the accuracy and verification of all student program data and reports.
- Implement data-driven decision making for improvement efforts based on best practices.
- Manage and utilize policy effectively for maintaining systemic processes and practices.
- Account for the verification of the correct policy regarding all decisions and correspondence.
- Implement effective policy-driven decision making.
- Seek and participate in quality professional development activities to improve therapy and evaluation effectiveness thereby increasing student's benefit in their education.
- Participate collaboratively with colleagues to reflect on one's educational therapy practices.
- Stay abreast of developments in the profession and display openness to change and innovation.
- Maintain updated record of all professional development activities.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district, department, and content goals.
- Submit all legal documents in a timely manner as required by Federal, State, and District.
- Display proficient levels of technology applications.
- Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
- Meet deadlines to submit collaborative and individual evaluation reports, progress reports, and other documents as required by the campus/district.
- Maintain punctuality in daily work times, appointments, and meetings.
- Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
- Maintain friendly customer-service-driven interactions with all stakeholders, students, teachers, administrators, and co-workers.
- Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communication (i.e. email, written, and verbal).
- Perform other duties and accept other responsibilities as assigned.
