JOB SUMMARY:

Position: Buyer/Planner

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategically select and procure materials for production or resale purposes.
  • Assess potential suppliers based on cost-effectiveness, product excellence, and punctuality of deliveries.
  • Oversee the processes of purchasing, material requirements planning (MRP), and supplier relationship management.
  • Monitor operational demand trends and guide the procurement team on demand fluctuations.
  • Collaborate with planner/schedulers at Dover and Hammond locations to manage raw material orders.
  • Contribute to Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings with relevant data analysis, trend insights, and inventory status reports.
  • Regularly review and refine the MRP system to align with operational needs.
Reporting Structure: The Buyer/Planner will report directly to the Strategic Sourcing Manager, ensuring the timely procurement and delivery of raw materials in line with production demands. This role is pivotal in managing raw material inventory levels, coordinating with Planner/Schedulers and the Operations team, and achieving inventory turnover objectives.

Forecasting and Demand Analysis:
  • Conduct detailed analyses of sales patterns, stock levels, and manufacturing timetables to forecast customer demand.
Purchasing and Supplier Management:
  • Secure and negotiate with suppliers to guarantee competitive pricing and maintain strong vendor partnerships.
  • Guarantee the punctual arrival of orders.
Cross-Functional Coordination:
  • Engage with production, sales, and other relevant departments to align orders with production needs.
  • Synchronize material planning, procurement, and production scheduling to ensure the seamless delivery of end products.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • BS Degree in Supply Chain/Procurement or 5-7 years of applicable experience.
  • Must have demonstrated skills with data review and procedural development.
  • Experience working in an industrial setting preferred.
  • Proficient in MRP systems, purchasing, inventory control, Excel, ERP, and production scheduling.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Quality Management:
  • Oversee the Quality Department, ensuring adherence to ISO9001 standards and maintaining certification.
Supply Chain Coordination:
  • Facilitate the integration of material planning, procurement, and production scheduling to guarantee the prompt delivery of finished goods to customers.
  • Act as the liaison between production, scheduling, and business partners for raw material procurement.
Order Management:
  • Execute purchase orders (POs) based on demand and schedule requirements.
  • Swiftly manage urgent POs, as necessary.
  • Keep system data up to date, including delivery dates and pricing, to maintain the accuracy of MRP reports.
Negotiation & Vendor Relations:
  • Negotiate favorable terms and prices with vendors on behalf of Dover Chemical.
  • Implement the new chemical/new supplier protocol, ensuring all approvals are secured before engaging with new vendors or chemicals.
Inventory & Forecasting:
  • Conduct daily analyses of material requirements with the procurement team.
  • Address and relay any pricing or delivery discrepancies to the procurement team.
  • Serve as an alternate for the planner/scheduler when required.
  • Review Integrated Business Planning (IBP) and suggest adjustments to raw material and sales forecasts.
  • Procure finished goods from external suppliers in line with MRP directives and customer delivery schedules, which includes:
    • Issues and Manages assigned Purchase Orders
    • Monitoring supplier progress to ensure material delivery timelines.
    • Managing logistics for shipping to the USA and delivery to Dover (Dana).
System Optimization:
  • Aid in the development of processes for the new ERP system.
  • Analyze and report quarterly forecast metrics for raw material demand.
  • Manage raw material inventory based on forecasts, turnover rates, and demand patterns.
Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficient in document control practices, with a thorough understanding of regulatory standards pertaining to documentation, storage, and retention.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Supply Chain and Procurement principles, tools, and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance relevant to the industry.
  • Outstanding communication abilities, both verbal and written.
  • Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Minitab, and familiarity with databases such as SharePoint is advantageous.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously, adhering to stringent deadlines and budget constraints.
  • A broad grasp of business concepts, performance metrics, organizational dynamics, and the creation of customer value.
  • Confidence in oneself, with a positive approach to embracing and overcoming challenges.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of articulating complex subjects effectively and crafting detailed technical reports.
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends when necessary to resolve issues or meet critical deadlines.
  • Prepared to undertake travel for up to 20% of the time.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move or lift to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform physical activities that require moving your whole body with considerable use of arms and legs, such as reaching, bending, twisting, standing, climbing stairs, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals.
