Overview

The Behavioral Health Outpatient Alcohol and Other Drug (AoD) Therapist will fill a unique role in the partnership between Behavioral Health and the MATA (Medication Assisted Treatment for Addiction) Clinic in Adolescent Medicine. This position is an opportunity to help us build and shape substance abuse treatment and programming at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The Outpatient AoD Therapist is responsible for the clinical assessment, substance abuse and/or behavioral health treatment and related care management strategies of adolescents and their families. This individual is responsible to utilize individual, group, and family modalities within expected practice standard and as informed by the professional literature. The Outpatient AoD Therapist will possess the skills to collaborate effectively with medical professionals and social workers and provide interventions at the outpatient site as well as in the school seeing, natural environment, and other community facilities. This individual will provide culturally appropriate interactions and interventions across all professional and clinical settings.

Responsibilities
  • Remains current in required licensure and clinical or other training as required.
  • Accurately assesses and documents client presenting problems, history, symptomology,mental status, diagnosis and prescribes initial interventions in a timely manner.
  • Meets with client/family to assist in developing specific, realistic, and measurable treatmentgoals and objectives.
  • Employs strategies of intervention that are consistent with empirically supported treatmentsand consistent with program expectations.
  • Remains current in general knowledge of psychopharmacology in pediatric behavioralhealthcare and collaborates consistently with team psychiatrist.
  • Completes clinical charting and other related administrative paperwork in accordance withpolicy standards.
  • Practices within professional areas of expertise.
  • Maintains productivity expectations.
  • Effectively coordinates client care with other service providers and community resources toassure continuity of care.
  • Meets regularly with Clinical Coordinator or designee.
  • Attends routine staff meetings.
  • Attends in-service trainings, peer review and other intra-agency and supervisory activities.
  • Demonstrates willingness to seek/accept direct supervision as well as respect productivefeedback from colleagues and others.
  • Strives to maintain positive patient satisfaction.
  • Supports the philosophy, goals and mission of Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Clinical Coordinator or Administrator.
Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Masters of doctoral degree from an accredited university or professional school of Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy
  • Appropriate Ohio licensure, required. Must remain current in required licensure and clinical or other training as required. Independent license, preferred
  • Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board licensure of LCDC III or above.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in providing and managing behavioral health care and substance abuse treatment to adolescents and families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, medical personnel, medical social workers, peers, and community representatives.
  • Staff members hired into the MSW-Outpatient Social Worker position prior to May 2011 can be grandfathered into this position.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
