POSITION TITLE: Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) OP/Inpatients - This position in a PRN position
DEPARTMENT: Rehab Services - Outpatient DEPT NUMBER: 7091/7090
This position will be working at the outpatient clinic and acute care setting.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

AA degree from a school or college approved by the American Physical Therapy Association
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Computer proficiency at a high level
Preferred: Outpatient / Acute Care Physical Therapist Assistant experience
Preferred: Electronic Medical Record experience
LICENSES & CERTIFICATION:
Current license as Physical Therapist Assistant in the State of Tennessee
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY
Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain and prevent permanent physical disabilities of patients experiencing surgical recovery, injury, or disease. The PTA works to restore, maintain, and promote overall fitness and health. Their patients include post-op surgical patients, patients' recovery from injury or others with physical challenges that can be improved through services of the PTA in their home. They are responsible for following directive therapy plans prepared by the Physical Therapist, modifying and administering physical therapy modalities of treatment as supervised by the Physical Therapist. They assist patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning while learning to live within the limits of their physical situations. The PTA participates in operational elements of the department, performance improvement (QI) of the department, infection control activities, and requirements, training and organizational safety programs as directed by the Departmental leader. Computer proficiency is mandatory and prior utilization of an Electronic Medical Record is highly preferred in this role. Expectations include but are not limited to: § Adhere to all Company policies and procedures. § Follows work schedule and finds own replacement for personal changes. § Demonstrate flexible and efficient time management techniques. § Prioritize workload to meet productivity standards and applicable deadlines. § Communicate with Department leadership on a regular basis about project status and issues. § Communicate with colleagues on a regular basis about project status and issues. § Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations with internal and external customers. § Maintain a positive and respectful attitude and demeanor. § Report to work on time and prepared to perform duties of position. § Adheres to dress code and presents with professional appearance. § Maintains regulatory requirements and job requirements such as BLS. § Always maintain confidentiality. § Completes annual education, training, and other requirements as appropriate. § Must be able to solve problems independently and confidently by applying analytical and logical thinking. § Must be willing to work as needed in other rehab departments of the organization. Must be willing to work odd hours occasionally if demand requires.

Provides treatment as directed by the Physical Therapist Assistant while adhering to standards of physical therapy practice.
Directs, observes, and evaluates treatment and its effect on patients assigned. Reports observations appropriately per
documentation and to the Physical Therapist.
Assesses patient pain that impacts optimal level of function and makes appropriate PCP contact for intervention and/or
reports to Physical Therapist for direction.
Performs all aspects of patient care while also optimizing patient home environment for patient safety and reduces the
likelihood of medical or healthcare errors and/or incidents.
Assists in formulation of a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and assess effectiveness of learning. Both
patient and caregivers are included in this process. Makes the Physical Therapist aware of teaching and learning status
of both patient and caregiver. Assists in modification of educational plans as needed with Physical Therapist.
Possesses and appropriately utilizes knowledge and skill in all physical therapy modalities.
Treats patients and caregivers with respect and dignity.
Identifies and addresses environmental, psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and
caregivers.
Utilizes age-appropriate care and interactions during treatment.
Accurately and completely documents care, interventions, and interactions in electronic medical record at the time of
care.
Maintains a positive and respectful attitude and demeanor.in all interactions with patients, caregivers, co-workers,
leadership and other during daily interactions.
Follows all protocols when indicated for all patients whose PCP request use of one.
Participates in CMS audits as needed.
Takes care of EMR with proper billing, time IN/OUT and coding as required by insurance and billing/HIM offices.
Treats patients and caregivers with respect and dignity.
Other duties as assigned are associated with their role or departmental needs.
Maintains continuing education and licensure current.
