Summary of Position

• Perform echocardiogram studies using ultrasound equipment to create images of the heart used to assist the cardiologist
with diagnosis of cardiovascular pathology.

Principal Accountabilities

• Operate echocardiogram equipment to perform cardiac ultrasound imaging studies.
• Provide excellent diagnostic echo images, correct views and accurate measurement for Transthoracic Echoes and
Stress Echoes. Comply with patient care, safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures while
performing studies.
• Review patient's medical history and physician's instructions.
• Explain procedure to patient and record any additional medical history that may be relevant to the condition being
viewed.
• Prepare equipment and patient for procedure.
• Monitor patient flow in exam rooms and waiting room(s). Proactively resolve patient flow issues related to the
clinical visit process. Keep patients informed of any delays.
• Communicate critical results to the ordering provider and/or care team. Solicit feedback regarding pathology critical
findings and additional views that may need to be performed.
• Check email correspondence, electronic task lists, and other written communication regularly throughout the
business day to enable timely knowledge of and response to written correspondence.
• Assist with the orientation of new sonographers.
• Perform other job-related duties as required.

Education, Training, Licenses, Certifications

• High School Diploma or GED (R)
• Formal training and completion of course work from an accredited sonography school (R)
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) (R)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (R)

Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• One to two years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer (P)
• Greater than 900 clinical hours of documented echo scanning in combination with a RDCS or RCS Registry certification (R)
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to explain technical procedures to patients. (R)
• Demonstrated competence in Cardiac testing and EKG. Ability to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently (R)
• Demonstrated basic computer skills including typing.
• Experience performing mathematical and scientific calculations. (R)
