Job Description

SUMMARY

The First Article Inspector II will ensure the company's products meet safety and quality standards, always looking for innovative ways to improve product verification methods. Perform visual and mechanical inspections of various parts and assemblies. Attention to detail, integrity, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards will contribute to overall success.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Records inspection results in SAP.
  • Performs detailed visual and mechanical/dimensional inspection utilizing tools, such as Calipers, Micrometers, Height Gage, Microscope, etc., on raw materials, detail parts, outside processing, and finished assemblies.
  • Performs inspections on engineering prototypes and first article samples and generates inspection reports, such as FAI Reports (FAIRs).
  • Review Customer Specifications, Drawings, and quality notes from purchase orders.
  • Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Reliable and flexible to work additional hours on short notice to complete orders and special projects to meet customer or internal demands.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, e.g., GED, vocational school diploma.
  • 2+ years of experience as a Quality Control Inspector.
  • Good knowledge of blueprint reading and dimensioning tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M.
  • Experience completing and reviewing AS9102 FAIR’s at a high level, including Net-Inspect and Discus.
  • Background in aerospace, defense, or cable assembly industries favored.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Active IPC-WHMA-A-620 certification preferred.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Conversational in any other language is a plus.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Basic arithmetic: add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Statistics: Interpret and analyze numerical data using statistical methods.
  • Basic Geometry: The ability to understand and work with shapes, angles, lines, and planes.
JOB SKILLS
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, SAP preferred.
  • Good knowledge of blueprint reading, Geometric Dimensioning Tolerancing (GD T), and ASME Y14.5M
  • General understanding of Quality Assurance Systems and Applications, such as ISO 9001 or AS9100.
  • Has the technical knowledge to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.
  • Produces mostly error-free work the first time with little waste or redone work.
  • Hand agility, coordination, and accuracy.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate and interface well with the Quality and other departments.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills, high ethical standards, and a positive professional image, capable of relating to individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to meet challenging time targets to meet customer demands.
  • Willing to work additional hours on short notice to meet customer or internal demands.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

As part of their job duties, the employee must sit for lengthy periods while frequently using their hands to handle objects and communicate verbally. Additionally, they may need to stand, walk, reach, and occasionally lift objects weighing up to twenty (20) pounds. This role requires specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • ASTM F–2412–2005, ANSI Z41–1999, or ANSI Z41–1991 rated safety toe shoes in specific areas.
  • Clear ANSI Z87.1 safety-rated glasses in specific areas.
  • Hearing protection in specific locations.
  • Ability to compile with JSA in specific areas.
