POSITION PROFILE
Registered Nurse (RN) under the general guidance and direction of the Medical Contract Services and the jail administration in evaluating the medical needs of inmates and providing comprehensive medical care while observing and maintaining security requirements within the Duchesne County Jail. The RN will provide inmate services in an orderly, respectful, and disciplined manner, consistent with the professionalism expected of all Sheriff's Office employees. RN will respond in emergency situations and perform additional correctional/administrative duties as assigned. Will oversee and direct the Correctional LPN's work under the general guidance and direction of the contracted medical providers and the jail administration.

- Complying with court orders, medical department rules, and the policies and procedures of the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office.
- Assessing, planning, and delivering nursing care to detained and committed individuals
- Record patients' medical histories and symptoms
- To administer CPR instructions and ability to take charge in a CPR emergency.
- To administer medications, including IM injections, upon physician's orders.
- To Notify the supervisor and complete written reports for any medical or security incidents.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent, one (1) year of specialized medical training provided through college, technical school or professional organizations; and/or
- Two (2) years experience as an RN preferred.
- Working in a correctional facility experience is preferred but not required.
- Must have a current and valid Utah Driver's License and
- RN must have a current state nursing license, CPR certification, and other certifications as required.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws.
- Ability to think critically and react effectively and safely in emergency and stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain accurate, detailed reports and records
- Attentive to detail includes observing multiple activities and quickly identifying inappropriate inmate conduct.
- Ability to order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients' medical needs
- Ability to prepare patients for and assist with examinations or treatments.

- Must be able to write clearly, concisely, and communicate effectively in English.
- Must be able to respond professionally to inquiries from the public and other agencies in both written and verbally.
- Must read and understand state, federal, and local regulations governing correctional operations and related regulations associated with governmental agencies.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or verbal form.
- Ability to analyze, review, and judge different situations in the correctional medical field
- Ability to interpret numerical reports.
- Ability to make independent judgments requiring quick and effective decision-making.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, run, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 lbs with assistance.
