Job Summary:

Music therapy in a hospice setting aims to address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families, promoting comfort, dignity, and peace during the end-of-life journey. In a hospice setting, a music therapist plays a crucial role in providing holistic care to patients facing terminal illness and their families. Here's what a music therapist typically does within a hospice setting:

  • Assessment: The music therapist assesses the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of the patient and their family members. This assessment helps in developing personalized treatment plans.

  • Music-Based Interventions: Using a variety of musical techniques, such as singing, playing instruments, and listening to music, the therapist helps patients address physical pain, anxiety, depression, and other symptoms associated with terminal illness.

  • Emotional Support: Music therapy provides a safe space for patients to express their emotions and cope with the challenges they are facing. It can also help alleviate feelings of isolation and loneliness.

  • Enhancing Quality of Life: Music therapy aims to improve the overall quality of life for patients by promoting relaxation, enhancing spiritual well-being, and fostering a sense of connection and meaning.

  • Legacy Building: Music therapists may assist patients in creating legacy projects, such as recording personal songs or writing musical compositions, which can serve as meaningful mementos for loved ones.

  • Family Involvement: Music therapy sessions may involve family members, providing opportunities for shared experiences and fostering communication and support among family members.

  • End-of-Life Care: In the final stages of life, music therapy can offer comfort and support to both patients and their families, helping them navigate the emotional and spiritual aspects of the dying process.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music Therapy from an accredited institution

  • Board certification (MT-BC) as a Music Therapist

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in providing music therapy services, preferably in a healthcare or hospice setting

  • Proficiency in playing a variety of musical instruments and genres

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members

  • Compassion, empathy, and sensitivity to the emotional and spiritual needs of individuals facing end-of-life care

Why Bloom?

  • Competitive salary with bonuses and stock options.

  • Opportunities for professional growth.

  • Collaborative work environment with a passionate team making a difference in healthcare.

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance including an employer-paid benefit plan.

  • 401(k) retirement plan.

  • Employer-paid basic life and AD&D insurance.

  • Generous PTO and paid holidays.

  • Annual continued education allowance.
