The Surgery Coordinator reports to the Front Office and Surgery Coordinator Manager and/or Practice Administrator. The Surgery Coordinator is responsible for completing all scheduling and paperwork for all surgeries, completing all precertification authorizations for surgery, and collecting any pre-surgery payments. This position also includes confirming that all required equipment for surgery has been requested. Major duties and responsibilities: Schedule all surgical procedures at the appropriate hospital or surgery center, preoperative testing at appropriate hospitals or offices or surgical instrumentationObtain pre-certification authorization for surgery for both primary and secondary insurance carriers at least one (1) week prior to surgery dateEnsure patient consults are pulled and included surgery paperwork at least 24 hours prior to surgery (before the paperwork is sent to the front desk and prior to the patients surgical consultationEnsure all patient consents for surgery are signed by the patient and witnessed prior to surgeryComplete surgery flow sheets prior to surgery and enter all CPT and diagnosis codes into the surgery scheduling chart in the EMRExplain surgery financial policies to the patient, and arrange for prepayment for cosmetic, self-pay, commercial insurance deductibles and coinsurance when applicableAdvise cosmetic patients on all surgery estimates, including physician, hospital, anesthesia and surgical implant chargesChart all progress notes in EMR including all scheduling messages and voicemail messages regarding patientsCheck scheduling voicemail messages routinely throughout the day and return all messages before leaving for the dayFax or send History and Physicals to Hospital prior to surgery as neededPerform a final review of all paperwork to confirm completeness prior to surgerySchedule patients throughout the day per physician request, including entering surgery times and dates in to EMR and physician personal calendars or schedulersMaintain the Physicians personal calendars or schedulers including scheduling any business development meetings, appointments and/or travel plans as required by the Physician outside of normal clinic and surgery schedulesEnsure that the EMR schedule reflects the appropriate schedule blocks to accommodate all meetings, appointments and travel plans Requirements High school diploma or equivalentMedical training in terminology2+ years' experience in physician's/clinical environment Previous Procedure and Diagnostic Scheduling requiredTyping at 45 wpm with accuracy Preferred Previous experience with insurance verification and billing preferredPrevious experience with billing and collections
