Description

General Statement of Duties :

The Shuttle Driver is responsible for providing safe transportation of all participants who opt to utilize this service, keeping regularly scheduled pick-up times. This position is on duty Monday through Friday 8:30am-12:30pm during Ithaca College's Spring and Fall semesters with additional community outings typically set to occur twice weekly throughout the year (shopping trips, club trips, etc.). Occasional evening/weekend outings are scheduled based on resident interest and staff availability. In between shuttle runs, the shuttle driver may be asked to assist with additional tasks outlined by the supervisor (bottle/can returns, etc).

Typical Duties and Responsibilities :

• Transport residents, staff, faculty and students between Longview and other local sites according to schedule;
• Assist participants in wheelchairs, walkers, etc. with boarding and exiting the vehicle;
• Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections;
• Follow assigned route(s) and adhere to set schedules;
• Maintain accurate driving records/route sheets;
• Complete and submit all required reports and documentation in a timely manner;
• Observe and obey all traffic laws and safety regulations;
• Ensure vehicle is clean and fueled;
• Adhere to Longview's risk management practices and maintain safety precautions when participants are boarding and departing the bus;
• Promptly report accidents, vehicle damage and injuries to supervisor;
• Check in with supervisor on a daily basis;
• Attend driver training and staff meetings;
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications :

• High School diploma or GED required;
• Must pass a driving test in the Longview shuttle under supervision of the department director;
• Must be dependable, punctual, courteous, and possess excellent customer service skills;
• Must submit to a driving record check and be eligible for coverage under Longview insurance policy;
• Experience driving large vehicles OR CDL license desired;
• Completion of a driver safety course within the past year desired;
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs;
• Experience driving a shuttle or bus desired;
• Experience working directly with older adults preferred.

Schedule:

Monday-Friday 8:30a-12:30p during the academic year (August-December & January-May)

Additional scheduled shopping trips throughout the year
