Job Summary:

The Janitor General Foreman is responsible for managing a team of janitorial staff to maintain cleanliness, safety, and hygiene in facilities such as office buildings, schools, hospitals, or industrial environments. This role includes overseeing daily cleaning operations, ensuring that all areas meet health and safety standards, and handling equipment and supply management. The General Foreman is also involved in training staff and coordinating tasks across various shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision & Leadership:
    • Lead, train, and supervise a team of janitors and custodians.
    • Assign tasks and ensure that cleaning duties are completed to the highest standards.
    • Monitor performance and provide feedback to team members to maintain productivity and quality.
    • Conduct regular meetings and briefings with staff to discuss schedules, safety protocols, and other key updates.
  • Cleaning Operations Management:
    • Ensure that all assigned areas are cleaned and maintained in accordance with the established cleaning standards and schedules.
    • Perform hands-on cleaning tasks as needed, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and restroom sanitation.
    • Inspect the facility regularly to ensure cleanliness and hygiene standards are met.
    • Handle and maintain cleaning tools, chemicals, and equipment safely.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure all cleaning activities comply with health and safety regulations, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and safe handling of equipment.
    • Conduct safety training for staff and ensure that all team members follow safety protocols.
    • Report any maintenance issues or hazards to management for resolution.
  • Inventory & Supply Management:
    • Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and order new products as needed.
    • Track and maintain cleaning equipment to ensure it is in good working condition.
    • Oversee the proper storage and handling of cleaning supplies and chemicals.
  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Create and manage cleaning schedules and assign appropriate duties to staff.
    • Complete daily or weekly reports on the status of cleaning operations, staff performance, and supply needs.
    • Maintain records of maintenance issues, requests, and any relevant incidents.
  • Customer Service:
    • Communicate effectively with building occupants or clients to ensure satisfaction with cleaning services.
    • Address any concerns or complaints related to cleaning or janitorial services promptly.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Some positions may require a degree or specialized training in facilities management).
  • Proven experience in janitorial services, including supervisory experience.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations, including chemical handling and equipment maintenance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
Working Conditions:
  • Full-time position with varying shifts (including evenings, nights, or weekends as needed).
  • May require working in a variety of environmental conditions (indoor, outdoor, industrial spaces).
  • Physical stamina is required for the role, including walking, bending, and lifting heavy objects.
