Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy Services, the Registered Oncology Pharmacist delivers comprehensive pharmaceutical care within our Infusion Center, Hematology Oncology Unit, and Oncology Physician Practice. This role involves direct collaboration with Hematology/Oncology Physicians, Infectious Disease Physicians, and their patients. The Oncology Pharmacist will focus on providing clinical and dispensing services for hematology/oncology practices and patients, as well as offering Staff Pharmacist and IV services as required. The role includes reviewing patient medication orders against their profiles, ensuring compliance with hospital and pharmacy policies, and maintaining high standards of customer service, professional accountability, and personal growth.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
  • Implement all aspects of the pharmacy process to meet oncology patients' needs, including medication education, safety, and patient rights.
  • Apply pharmacy practices to address the specific medication needs of patients of all ages, ensuring adherence to safety and rights.
  • Employ and monitor infection control methods, participate in quality improvement and risk management programs, and meet established competency standards.
  • Utilize a systematic decision-making process involving data collection, priority setting, resource management, and collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrate productivity through punctuality, efficient time management, and effective use of low-activity periods to benefit the pharmacy and patients.
  • Show commitment through active participation in in-services, projects, and professional development; maintain current license and enhance oncology-related knowledge and skills.
  • Stay updated with federal, state, and regulations, laws, and policies, ensuring compliance with any changes.
  • Take responsibility for meeting competency standards, accepting constructive feedback, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintain professionalism, adaptability to change, and effective communication within the healthcare team.
  • Be flexible with staffing and assignment adjustments.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, manage conflict resolution effectively, and practice cost containment.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, dress code, behavioral standards, and mandatory in-services requirements.
  • Supervise Pharmacy Assistants.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Pharmacy with a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
  • Valid New York State Pharmacist license and current registration required.
  • 2 to 3 years of hospital pharmacy experience.
  • At least three annual Continuing Education credits in Chemotherapy/Oncology.
  • Oncology Certification by NYSCHP, BPS, or an equivalent organization preferred.
  • Experience in hematology oncology and infusion center operations preferred.
  • Successful completion of Hospital and Departmental Orientation Program in line with hospital and pharmacy policies and procedures.
