Description

Rack & Riddle is seeking to add a Lab Supervisor to our QC Team.

Position Overview

The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for Daily oversight of Laboratory operations, ensuring lab safety, cleanliness, and organization. The supervisor also supports the Quality Control department as needed and may work longer hours during harvest. Additional tasks and projects will be assigned as necessary.

The Lab Supervisor must be quality oriented, must retain high level of accuracy and precision, and must be customer centric with high regard toward external and internal clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Day-to-day Supervision: Oversee daily activities of Healdsburg lab staff, including scheduling, task assignment, and performance monitoring.
  • Operations Management: Manage lab schedules and payroll for multiple North Coast locations.
  • Lab Safety and Organization: Maintain a safe and clean lab environment, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and chemical safety standards.
  • Sample and Data Management: responsible for auditing lab processes to ensure all data is reported and recorded accurately. This role includes overseeing the accurate collection and analysis of wine and juice samples throughout the production process, from fermentation to bottling
  • Chemical Analyses: Perform and oversee wine analysis. Troubleshoot and resolve any analytical or instrument issues.
  • Staff Development: Train and onboard new lab technicians. Conduct performance reviews and ensure the team meets operational goals.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance and calibration of lab instruments to ensure they remain in proper working order.
  • Quality Control (QC): Support the QC department by verifying that wines meet client specifications before bottling, performing QC checks during production, and ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Reviewing and Editing SOPs: The Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for periodically reviewing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure they align with current industry practices and regulatory requirements. This includes editing existing SOPs for clarity, accuracy, and compliance, as well as developing new SOPs as necessary to improve lab efficiency and safety.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all lab operations comply with federal and state regulations as well as company policies.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
  • Requirements:
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a wine production laboratory with a degree.
    • Strong understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and HACCP.
    • Ability to lead and manage a team, including scheduling, performance monitoring, and staff development.
    • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
