Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Inpatient Clinical Dietitian works collaboratively with physicians, ancillary staff, and the Food Service Department to coordinate the provision of consistent access to nutritional support and care for hospitalized and community-based patients. Utilize the Nutrition Care Process to monitor patient outcomes and response to nutritional intervention and to maintain a consistent, in-depth assessment of patients at nutritional risk. The inpatient clinical dietitian writes orders per consult for nutrition support and advocates for patient interventions to prevent malnutrition and related co morbid conditions. Recommendations for nutritional interventions, creation of nutrition focused care plans, and comprehensive assessment in the form of Nutrition Focused Physical Exams (NFPE) are conducted to provide individualized care and assignment of nutrition related diagnosis. They also provide comprehensive education known as Medical Nutrition Therapy on an individualized basis and based on diagnosis. They work collaboratively within the organization to maintain best practice standards for nutrition education materials.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:
  • Requires completion of a dietetic internship program and current licensing as a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration with a Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics or related field.
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of modern principles and practices in Dietetics. Ability to conduct Nutrition Focused Physical Exams, Interpret nutrition related laboratory values, Calculate and assess Enteral and Parenteral nutrition data and nutrition needs for a variety of patient related diagnoses.
Skills:
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and hospital personnel.
  • Basic computer skills: word processing, order entry, data management.
  • Able to prioritize work assignments and pay close attention to detail and organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, telephone and written communication skills.
