Overview

Location: Nellis AFB, NV - Pain Management

Schedule: Monday - Friday 0700-1600. Typical shifts will be scheduled for 9 hours with a
1-hour non-paid lunch.

Overage Hours: Will start with 10 OT and will not exceed 50 hours per FTE per year

Pay rate: $46/hr - $56/hr + $4.57/hr for Health & Wellness pay

Responsibilities

Serve as a Registered Nurse providing inpatient/outpatient services for patients in accordance
with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines in the pain management
clinic.
Coordinate patient care with members of the pain management team as well as members of
the perioperative team and facilitates the achievements of optimal outcomes in relation to
clinical care, quality, and cost effectiveness.
Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established
policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the medical treatment facility (MTF). Provide
care within ethical and legal boundaries.
Possess basic knowledge of emergency procedures in order to react promptly and
appropriately to provide effective care during emergency situations, respiratory or cardiac
arrest.
Work with appropriate MTF/clinic staff in pain management to ensure medication/supplies
are replenished.
Skilled in preparing and administering medications in accordance with scope of practice and
training including administering physician directed moderate sedation.
Perform/assist with procedures such as interventional pain procedures, bladder
catheterizations, pulse oximetry, oxygen administration, EKGs, glucose testing, and other
clinic specified procedures, in accordance with established protocols.
Complete orientation and competency verification program in accordance with (IAW) unit
guidelines.
Place intravenous (IV) catheters to support procedural requirements.
Provide outpatient clinic support, as well as support in a pre- and postoperative care setting to
recover patients in a phase 1 or 2 environment.
Initiate, perform, and complete assigned duties in providing care to variable patient
populations.
Record treatment, procedures rendered, and observed effects.
Provides individualized patient teaching on appropriate topics to include preventative
healthcare and health maintenance.
Adheres to infection control procedures including use of personal protective equipment,
disposal of waste, and aseptic technique.
Complete assigned patient care based on the patients' conditions, use judgment in selecting
the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and accurately recognize,
report and record relevant patient information.
Observe, identify, and respond to the patient's needs for care, including medication,
equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education.
Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular
and/or intravenous) and perform treatments according to established policies/procedures and
within scope of practice.
Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or
MD/DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
Perform support duties in pain management for complex diagnostic tests and/or specialized
practices or procedures, which include preparing the patient, assisting in the diagnostic
examination, preparing, and handling specialized instruments or other specialized equipment
and monitoring the patient's condition before, during, and following the procedure.

Screen, schedule and check-in patients and escort patients to treatment areas as well as take,
monitor and record physiological measurements. Screen patients at the reception desk for
eligibility and verifies appointments with the appropriate health care provider along with
book, schedule and notify patients for follow-up as required.
Communicate with patients regarding peri-procedure instructions, appropriately triaging
patient concerns and communicating those with the physicians.
Maintain patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as required.
Integrate healthy work environment principles that result in improved patient healthcare
delivery, education of patients and their families and employee satisfaction.

Qualifications

Degree/Education (5.2.4): Bachelor's Degree of Nursing. Graduate from an accredited
community college, junior college, college, university, or vocational nursing program
approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting
bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for
Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing
Education (CCNE).
Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): The HCW shall hold and
maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. Certifications must be through American
Heart Association or American Red Cross guidelines. Member must present proof of current
certification(s) through American Health Association or American Red Cross. Computerbased training does not constitute fulfilling the training requirements. Must maintain
currency at NO cost to the government.
Experience: Experience as a registered nurse for at least 2 years post training. Experience in
an inpatient or outpatient setting appropriate. Experience must include having worked full
time (40 hours per week). Must have worked at least 6 months out of the prior 12. Must have
at least 1 year experience with administering moderate sedation and placing IV catheters.
Board Certification (5.2.6.4.4): None
Licensure/Registration: For positions involving patient care, candidates must have a
permanent, full, and unrestricted Registered Nursing license to practice nursing in a State,
District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
