GENERAL CURRICULUM SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS - These are full-time positions in co-teaching classrooms. Exact school(s) and grade level/content areas have yet to be determined and may be determined based on candidate qualifications and expertise. JOB GOAL: To teach assigned students those skills, concepts, attitudes, and abilities as directed in adopted curriculum, and to perform other duties ancillary to the teaching role to include student safety, control, welfare, and growth.

REPORTS TO: Principal

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Valid Georgia teaching certificate required in appropriate field or meets local Professional Qualifications.
  2. Ability to relate well to individuals, groups of students, and parents.
  3. Physical demands - position requires significant standing and some sitting, kneeling, and walking. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling will not normally exceed thirty (30) pounds, and will usually be in the area of ten (10) pounds. Must be able to move about the classroom and monitor student behavior.
JOB DUTIES:
  1. Works within the framework of the goals established by the Berrien County Public Schools.
  2. Plan the long and short range objectives for each assigned course.
  3. Collect and use a wide variety of information to aid in guiding the growth and development of individual pupils.
  4. Select meaningful subject matter and related learning experiences appropriate to various stages of pupil development.
  5. Select and utilize appropriate teaching procedures.
  6. Select teaching materials conducive to attainment of goals.
  7. Establish standards for individual pupils in terms of ability level.
  8. Create a classroom climate conducive to pupil intellectual, social, emotional, and moral development.
  9. Control student behavior and activities so that they contribute positively to the accomplishment of goals,
  10. Utilize concept formation, principles, and generalization in helping students to understand subject matter.
  11. Evaluate student performance continuously to determine the extent of direction needed to attain goals.
  12. Perform duties associated with special education students such as:
  13. Assisting in development of IEPs for students;
  14. Participating in IEP conferences, placement conferences or parent conferences concerning students;
  15. May observe students in regular classrooms who are being reviewed for possible special education services;
  16. Reviewing with classroom teacher the special education students' needs and progress.
  17. Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and staff development opportunities.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Position works 190 days.

EVALUATION: Performance is evaluated in accordance with the personnel policy and certified evaluations.
