Senior Academic Advisor, Undergraduate

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager of Computer Science and/or designated associate department chairs (with a dotted line to the School of Engineering and Science Director of Undergraduate Studies), the Senior Academic Advisor position will provide academic advising for undergraduate students majoring in computer science programs, provide support for various educational processes and assist with related academic administrative matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Advise prospective and current undergraduate students in the Department of Computer Science about academic program requirements and provide guidance on choosing and completing a program or concentration.
  • Assist students through registration periods, utilizing study plans for their specific program and guiding them as they progress through each academic year.
  • Participate in and lead recruitment events, information sessions, and orientations for prospective and new students.
  • Enter, evaluate, and audit student data in Workday Student to ensure students are progressing through their academic programs in a timely manner and to certify completion of course and non-course requirements for graduation.
  • Manage responses to inquiries from prospective students about computer science undergraduate programs and Stevens, in general.
  • Serve as primary point of contact to the department chair, associate department chairs, faculty advisors, department staff and current students in computer science regarding school policies and procedures from admission to graduation.
  • Coordinate communications to students regarding departmental and college regulations as it relates to program requirements and the graduation process and coordinate mandatory advisement sessions.
  • Advise current students on on-campus course, web, international and non-course opportunities to enhance professional skills, competencies and career readiness.
  • Partner with other Undergraduate Academic Advisors and the Graduate Academic Advising Team to provide ongoing departmental coverage and support for new projects and events that may arise.
  • Collaborate with School of Engineering and Science Director of Undergraduate Studies and Academic Advisors as well as the Registrar Office, Office of Undergraduate Academics, and other departments at Stevens on processes and procedures that impact their roles.
  • Assist the Associate Department Chairs and Operations Manager of the Department of Computer Science with tasks such as planning and communications for group advising meetings and student events, processing transfer credit requests, and other departmental curriculum and advising projects that may arise.
  • Maintain relationships with various offices and departments across campus, collaborating on continued process improvement across various stakeholders.
  • Acquire and maintain a detailed knowledge of the department's advising goals and strategies, and support documentation of advising support progresses and initiatives.
  • Provide support to the Associate Department Chair for Undergraduate Studies and collaborate on trends/issues related to individual programs.
Qualifications
  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Preferred Education: Master's degree
  • Preferred Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in higher education, preferably in academic advising; Familiarity with computer science programs.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with ability to develop rapport with and positively influence a diverse audience.
  • Ability to partner with leadership to develop strategies to achieve organizational goals.
  • Strong project and time management skills.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work on deadline while managing multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
