REQUIREMENTS: Master's Degree from an accredited College or University
Behavior Analysis or related field (Special Education, Psychology, etc.).
One (1) year of work-related experience providing behavior supports

LOCATION: Walker-Grant Center

SALARY: Placement on teacher salary scale depends on education and experience. National Board Certification stacks onto Educational Level Obtained - $2,000.

Behavior Support Specialist (11-Months)
Director of Special Education

GENERAL PURPOSE
This position provides services and support for special education students through the development, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of positive behavior supports in collaboration with the student interdisciplinary teams. Supports may include, but are not limited to, modeling, functional behavioral analysis; comprehensive behavior assessments, support with administration of objective behavior support plans and guidelines; routine progress reporting; and staff training.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops, coordinates, implements and monitors behavioral supports in collaboration with interdisciplinary team.
  • Conducts functional analyses.
  • Provides comprehensive behavior assessments.
  • Administers objective behavior support plans and guidelines.
  • Provides routine progress reporting and staff training.
  • Conducts studies that measure specific influences on behavior and looks for new ways to solve inappropriate classroom behaviors.
  • Assists in identifying needs and formulating behavior plans to manage behaviors.
  • Collaborates with treatment team to determine how to best address long-term individual goals.
  • Provides instructional and behavioral intervention programs.
  • Participates in SEC/IEP team meetings.
  • Responds to referrals by providing consultation and collaboration with teams and central support staff.
  • Makes recommendations and conducts follow-up meetings on cases for students placed throughout the School Division
  • Supports and conducts ongoing training for general and special education teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and related service providers.
  • Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) annual license
  • Adheres to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.
  • Serves as an optimal role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.
  • Complies with all District and School policies and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master's Degree from an accredited College or University
    • Behavior Analysis or related field (Special Education, Psychology, etc.).
  • One (1) year of work-related experience providing behavior supports
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
  • Teaching License or license eligible
    • BCBA eligible (preferred)
or
  • Registered Behavior Technician
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the special education process and current legal mandates
  • Knowledge of developmentally-appropriate practices and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of classroom management strategies appropriate to the learning situation.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with all staff.
  • Ability to relate positively to parents and other community representatives.
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate use of written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective, positive behavioral supports and practices.
  • Ability to assess individual staff and student needs.
