The Psychiatrist has the responsibility to oversee and provide high-quality psychiatric and medical practice on the assigned unit. The Psychiatrist must be a licensed physician in the state of Pennsylvania, holding an M.D. or D.O. degree, and should be either Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry. It is also mandatory for the Psychiatrist to have a current DEA license and CPR certification. The Psychiatrist must possess a current and working knowledge of various techniques and information used in diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders, diseases, withdrawal management, and injuries. This includes understanding the symptoms, drug properties and interactions, treatment alternatives, and preventive healthcare measures. Strong oral comprehension, active listening, and communication skills are required, along with the ability to document care in Electronic Health Records (EHR). Bilingual capabilities would be an added advantage.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide ongoing treatment for patients as assigned
  • Document such treatment in medical records in accordance with department practice utilizing EHR.
  • Assure that the history and physical and initial psychiatric evaluation is completed within 24 hours of admission. This is performed by the Attending or referred to the in-house physician or NP.
  • Complete admission orders as needed.
    1. If the admission progress note and admission orders are completed by another Practitioner, the Attending physician is responsible for reviewing the note and orders.
    2. If completed by someone else, the History and Physician evaluation must be co-signed by the Attending.
  • Participate in the formulation of the treatment plans within 72 hours per Treatment Plan Policy & Procedure.
  • Obtain consent in accordance with appropriate laws and regulations (Informed Consent Process)
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, nurses, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.
  • Guide clinical staff in setting & achieving objectives for continued improvement in the quality of medical care.
  • Participate in all medical care evaluation and utilization reviews as assigned.
  • Serve as liaison with third-party payers on matters relating to physician performance.
  • Maintain a positive “bedside manner,” providing personal assistance and attention, emotional support, and other personal care to clients and patients.
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and requirements, Joint Commission, and other licensure, accreditation, and billing standards. Submit proof of compliance upon renewal.
  • Provide on-call coverage and coverage to cover absences of colleagues within the Department.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in continuing medical educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Ensures that outside commitments do not interfere with work schedule.
  • Serve as liaison with third-party payers on matters relating to physician performance.
  • Serves as a member of medical staff committees.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
