Position Overview

The Radio Frequency Calibration Specialist leverages expertise in measurement science, mathematics, physics, and electronics to calibrate a wide range of inspection, measurement, and test equipment across disciplines such as Acoustical, Chemical, Dimensional, DC/Low Frequency, RF/Microwave, Fluid, Mechanical, Optical, Thermodynamics, and Time & Frequency. This role is crucial for ensuring measurement accuracy and compliance with established specifications.

This position operates with a significant degree of independence, requiring effective problem-solving skills and sound judgment in completing complex and challenging tasks. The specialist will also contribute to laboratory upkeep and may handle some administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment across various disciplines to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Work with RF-enabled devices such as cell phone antennas, amplifiers, two-way radios, satellite systems, and internet access points.
  • Troubleshoot RF transmission circuits both independently and in collaboration with site engineers.
  • Identify and rectify faults in assemblies and make necessary adjustments.
  • Analyze the causes of faults and collaborate with on-site teams to prevent recurrence.
  • Create models, tune antennas, and develop modification plans for prototypes and assemblies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of test cases conducted.
  • Conduct routine antenna capability tests.
  • Maintain calibration standards and ensure proper functioning of precision equipment.
  • Develop calibration procedures based on technical specifications and drawings.
  • Gather and analyze calibration data, summarizing findings comprehensively.
  • Address out-of-tolerance conditions by implementing necessary corrective actions.
  • Prepare detailed calibration reports and certificates.
  • Adapt existing equipment and techniques for unique measurement tasks.
  • Evaluate measurement uncertainty and provide analysis for standards and processes.
  • Provide training to subordinates on calibration procedures and concepts.
  • Engage with other technicians, customer service representatives, account managers, and customers as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficient in general math and algebra.
  • Basic understanding of statistics is essential.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation.
  • Intermediate troubleshooting and repair skills for precision equipment.
  • Familiarity with computer applications, particularly MS Word and Excel.
  • Minimum three years of calibration experience, with formal metrology training being a plus.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Standards (ISO 9001, ISO 17025, and ANSI Z540).
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated team player with a strong adherence to written procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds unassisted.
  • Occasional standing and bending may be necessary.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in a laboratory or manufacturing setting, with potential visits to customer sites as required. Some travel, both domestic and international, may be necessary.
