The Plant Metallurgist will supervise the production, manufacturing and quality of company products, specific to the assigned departments. This shall be performed in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. Shall ensure that ISO and Customer specific requirements are implemented and maintained.

What You'll Do:

  • Assure that all castings meet and exceed the specified mechanical and physical properties prior to shipment. This includes testing and documentation for certification for both production and sample parts.
  • Research and development of approved metallurgical testing procedures to be used in testing and in-process checking of the iron to assure a quality product.
  • Metallurgical assistance to quoting and launch personnel.
  • Setting Metallurgical parameters throughout the process including, charge make-up, base chemistry targets, percent mag treatment, brinells, in-process and final.
  • Work on special projects and coordinate development of new systems in the metallurgical field.
  • Perform on-site surveys (Metallurgical Lab, in-coming material for iron, documentation of the chemical and mechanical properties).
  • Auditing vendors as necessary.
  • Responsible for the supervision of the Metallurgical Lab Personnel:
    • Auditing incoming steel and other materials that are part of the iron composition.
    • Verifying the base iron charge and chemistry.
    • Auditing alloy additions of the final iron.
    • Operating and maintenance of the testing equipment.
    • Audit the Molding process sheets metallurgical section, including follow-up discrepancies.
    • Ensure that the metallurgical measuring equipment used in manufacturing is checked at scheduled intervals.
    • Test bars are properly poured and tested.
    • Auditing of all production procedures for compliance.
    • Updating Process Sheets.
  • Responsible for initializing corrective action of customer or in-house metallurgical problems.
  • Monitoring and auditing of iron pouring including temperature control and pouring practices.
    • Review of simulations and gating designs, providing suggestions for improvements.
  • Responsible for the supervision of the Metallurgical to ensure that the measuring equipment used in manufacturing is checked at scheduled intervals.
  • Assist the Quality Manager in utilizing statistical techniques and preparation in the Metallurgical, Melting and Pouring departments.
  • Develop training materials on metallurgical, melting, and pouring practices and provide training to all departments as needed.
  • Perform all duties assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager.
What We Need From You:
  • Bachelors' degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science, or other related field.
  • 3-5 years' experience in a technical role; Foundry preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of varied alloy groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to read and produce technical reports and diagrams of manufacturing processes.
  • Ability and willingness to work with all levels of the Company.
  • Ability to contribute to manufacturing strategy.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Quality system support and working knowledge of ISO, IATF, and other applicable standards.
  • Ability to collect and process data accurately.
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to transfer knowledge and train other team members.
  • Steel-toed boots with metatarsal protection are required on Day 1, if hired.
