PURPOSE: The speech-language pathologist is responsible for addressing speech and language delays and disabilities that hinder an individual's ability to fully benefit from the district's educational program.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Screen all referred students, including preschool-aged children, to identify speech/language disorders.
  2. Conduct diagnostic evaluations to assess receptive and expressive language, articulation, auditory skills, oral motor function, voice, fluency, word retrieval, and pragmatics.
  3. Interpret evaluation results and enroll students whose speech/language impairs their learning ability.
  4. Develop, implement, and update Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with IDEA and state regulations.
  5. Collaborate with the pre-school team to update Early Childhood Outcomes throughout the year.
  6. Monitor student progress regularly and make recommendations for dismissal from services based on appropriate exit criteria.
  7. Serve as a communication consultant for teachers, school personnel, and parents/guardians through conferences, classroom demonstrations, and other activities.
  8. Collaborate with classroom teachers in conducting language groups.
  9. Maintain open communication with parents/guardians and participate in team meetings, annual reviews, and intervention meetings.
  10. Provide Tier 2 & 3 interventions as part of the speech/language workload.
  11. Ensure compliance with Illinois and IDEA rules and regulations by maintaining records and following procedures.
  12. Assist teachers in observing and referring students with speech/language impairments.
  13. Provide comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, fluency, and language disorders.
  14. Screen students regularly to identify speech/language disabilities and refer to specialists as necessary.
  15. Work with teachers to implement therapy strategies in daily classroom activities.
  16. Provide counseling, support, and information to parents and families when needed.
  17. Offer in-service education and consultation to teachers and staff on speech and language topics.
  18. Keep thorough records for all students receiving therapy and students' temporary records at the district and school offices.
  19. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student assessments, therapy progress, and IEP goals, adhering to District 41, state and federal guidelines.
  20. Maintain records of referred, screened, and eligible students.
  21. Collaborate with outside evaluators, specialists, and agencies.
  22. Compile relevant case history data when needed, including family, health, developmental, and environmental history.
  23. Manage requisition and maintenance of necessary equipment and supplies.
  24. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  25. Work collaboratively in alignment with District 41 programming and demonstrate a cooperative work spirit.
  26. Perform additional duties as assigned by the administration.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 182 Days. Salary to be established by the Board of Education.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear, with frequent walking and occasional standing, reaching, and other physical activities. Responsibilities include prolonged physical tasks such as stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, pulling, pushing, twisting, lifting, and carrying. The role involves occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds, positioning students, and applying de-escalation techniques. Additional tasks include sitting on the floor, reaching overhead, and handling adaptive or classroom equipment.
Essential sensory abilities include close vision for reading, distance and peripheral vision, focus adjustment, and hearing speech in various environments, including classrooms, outdoors, and over the phone. Clear, audible speech is required for effective communication.
