Summary

Baylor College of Medicine at Christus Children's is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the section of Pediatric Urology. The Nurse Practitioner works under a delineation of clinical privileges and works collaboratively with other members of the health care team, including the attending physicians, resident physicians, and fellow physicians to provide comprehensive patient care in accordance with the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Practicing under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the NP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures. Job duties are performed in a manner that is appropriate for the ages of patients served. The NP is responsible for education, research, consultation, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels.

Job Purpose

Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.

Job Duties

  • Daily utilization of advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data, and to manage a caseload of patients.
  • Administers or provides medications as delegated by authorizing physician.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests.
  • Consistently demonstrates effective communication skills and works to eliminate communication barriers.
  • Provides patient care follow-up.
  • Consistently serves as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals.
  • Consistently applies new knowledge relevant to population specific clinical practice.
  • Demonstrates current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills.
  • Participates in departmental Quality Improvement Program annually.
Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in in Nursing.
Experience Required:
  • Background working with children with chronic illness, and knowledge of long-term medications and drug interactions (Preferred).
  • Broad knowledge of medical terminology and pathology, a broad knowledge of adult learning principles and how to apply these principles to teaching.
  • Strong physical assessment and diagnostic skills as well as experience in patient and family education and coordination of care.
Certification/Licenses/Registration:
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Current controlled substances certificate from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) or eligible for same.
