Job Summary This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job. The Home Pharmacy Technician II is the full proficiency or journey level of the pharmacy technician job family where employees are responsible for independently performing the full range of duties of moderate difficulty and complexity as outlined under the Essential Functions and acts as preceptor to new staff in basic pharmacy technician functions. Performs sterile compounding as well as distributes medications, inventories pharmaceutical supplies, and troubleshoots and escalates issues. Performs at least two advanced assignments and understands the responsibilities regarding medication and pharmacy operations. Essential Functions The essential functions listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification. Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital’s policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct. Performs sterile compounding of non-hazardous and hazardous drugs. Cleans sterile compounding rooms according to policies and procedures. Operates and troubleshoots compounding devices and communicates effectively with the pharmacists when issues arise. Understand the difference between various medication inventories and utilize appropriately. Triages and/or escalates when an environmental monitoring value is out-of-range. Distributes medications and trains new staff by auditing and/or providing just in time feedback for accuracy. Triages inventory related issues and removes outdated supplies and rotates products. Works with pharmacy buyer and supply chain to request new products and address ordering issues. Escalates appropriately in a timely manner, issues raised by Information Systems personnel, maintenance engineering, and supply chain or any other departments. Monitors IV fluids and supplies inventory and places orders in a timely manner. Assists pharmacists with filling ambulatory clinic floor stock request forms. Performs at least two advanced assignments, as required by the pharmacy technician ladder. Trains other staff in basic pharmacy operations. Assists with projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience: 6 months of sterile compounding or inpatient hospital experience. License/Certification: Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy -OR- Licensed as Pharmacy Intern by the California Board of Pharmacy -OR- Licensed as a Pharmacist by the California Board of Pharmacy. Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment. Ability to work with devices, information systems, automated and technical equipment utilized in pharmacy. Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area. Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility. Knowledge of Medical terminology and abbreviations. Knowledge of methods and procedures involved in proper handling and storing of pharmaceutical supplies. Pay Range Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
