Park Place Family Recreation Center Job Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Personal Training Coordinator, the Personal Trainer is responsible for providing members with a safe and individualized training program that fits the needs, wants and requests of that member based on their fitness assessment and goals. The Personal Trainer is also responsible for performing fitness assessments on all members who are interested. The position is part time at-will, while hours will vary depending on member demand for Personal Training services.

Qualifications/Education
  • Candidate must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Candidate must have prior work experience in the Health/Fitness industry.
  • Candidate must have a Personal Training Certification through a Nationally Certified Organization such as: ACE, AFAA, NSCA, ISSA, or ACSM.
  • Preference given to CPR/AED certified candidates; otherwise, candidate must be CPR/AED certified within three (3) months of hiring.
  • Preference given to Spanish or Polish speaking candidates, communicate in English both verbally and in writing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Employee must perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Streamwood Park District's safety program.
  • Employee must develop individualized and safe Personal Training sessions.
  • Employee must perform safe fitness assessments according to guidelines which have been set.
  • Employee must attend all staff meetings.
  • Employee must wear required uniforms at all times.
  • Employee must check voice mail and file folder daily for Personal Training Forms.
  • Employee must call member(s) the day you pick up their form (and/or check your voice mail).
  • Employee must arrive on time for all Personal Training Sessions.
  • Employee must check with other Personal Trainers to see if they are available to take on new clients if you are not available.
  • Employee must fill out all appropriate paperwork for assessments and Personal Training sessions.
  • Employee must check all Personal Training and Assessments Forms daily and copy when supplies are low.
  • Employee must keep all individual Personal Training and Assessment Information in the office.
  • Employee must fill in the Personal Training/Assessment logbook.
  • Employee must work on other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Secondary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Employee must create enthusiasm and interest in the District.
  • Employee must maintain a professional and Customer Service oriented attitude.
  • Employee must adhere to the District's policies and procedures as described in Part-Time and Seasonal Personnel Policy Manuals.

Cognitive Considerations
Employee must be capable of communicating and working effectively and professionally with the public and all levels of the Park District staff with tact and diplomacy. Employee must be able to make decisions objectively based on client requests.

Employee must be able to troubleshoot issues and problems associated with the recreation department and facilities effectively and efficiently. Employee must have the ability to make judgments with respect to confidentiality of information. Employee is responsible for keeping organized records and reports.

Environmental & Physical Demands
Employee must operate and handle assigned equipment. Employee must have the physical agility to maintain mobility from site to site, and be able to perform moderate manual tasks.

Employee must be able to lift 25 pounds safely (a thorough pre-employment physical examination may be required after conditional job offer). Employee must have the ability to demonstrate proper form on a variety of fitness and exercise equipment.

Psychological Considerations
Employee will be required to interact with people of various ages and relate to them appropriately. Employee must be able to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction of the Personal Training Coordinator.

Employee must be able to deal with multiple situations at the same time, while recognizing priorities of the client, department, and the District. Employee must have the ability to receive constructive criticism and/or supervision. Employee must have the ability to be flexible and adaptable to new situations.
