This role involves leading a dedicated professional team in the development and compilation of financial statements that meet both management reporting and compliance requirements under GAAP and Statutory Insurance accounting standards. Join us to make a significant impact on our financial integrity and success.

This role provides ample opportunity to interact with senior management and present information to business partners at all levels of the enterprise.  Besides managing the compilation and analysis of the consolidated product line financial statements, this role will also collaborate closely with leaders of company divisions to ensure that their needs are met with respect to accurate and timely financial information.

At Ameritas, our mission is Fulfilling Life. We do that in many ways, but especially by helping people invest in themselves by offering trusted financial products and advice. Because we believe everyone should be happy, healthy, and financially secure, we work hard to provide trusted financial products and valued guidance, including individual life and disability insurance, employee benefits, retirement planning, investments, and wealth management services.

This is a hybrid role working partially in-office (in Lincoln, NE) and partially from home.

What you do

  • Lead innovative programs and direct continuous process improvements within the financial reporting and accounting area.
  • Manage and coordinate the financial close and other business area processes to meet business deadlines.
  • Manage the completion, review, and submission of all GAAP and Statutory financial statements on a consolidated basis and at a product level for analysis by FP&A team.
  • Ensure that the overall financial reporting control environment adheres to regulatory and audit standards.
  • Build and cultivate internal and external relationships to promote and grow the business.
  • Assist with the coordination of all state insurance examinations and lead the coordination of the annual independent audits, including the preparation and review of supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate the review and implementation of new and updated Statutory and GAAP accounting guidance.
  • Direct and influence associate and business resources to achieve business results.
  • Build strategies around the organization's Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with peers internally and externally to ensure current relevancy.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 7-10 years of finance or accounting experience required.
  • Previous or current insurance industry finance or accounting experience required.
  • 4+ years of supervisory, management, or leadership experience required.
  • Previous experience in public accounting desired.
  • CPA designation desired.
  • Experience with Oracle and/or Workiva systems desired.

What We Offer

  • Our company motto is Fulfilling Life and we take that job seriously, with a heavy commitment to volunteering and community support, employee well-being, and providing quality products and services that help our customers create a brighter future.
  • Being a mutual-based organization, the return on our investment goes back into the company, to benefit our members/customers.
  • We're committed to professional development, opportunity, inclusion and diversity. Team building and collaboration are also priorities.
  • A total rewards package with all the comprehensive health and welfare benefits you'd expect, including competitive pay and incentives, 401(k), flexible work schedules and time off to care for yourself and others.
  • Additional popular benefits, including tuition reimbursement, and student loan repayment, an incentivized well-being program, adoption assistance, paid time off for volunteering, training, and career development opportunities.
