Summary of Job Duties:
  • Travels to and gains access to various County buildings to plan, schedule, supervise and coordinate all new construction and maintenance carpentry projects; supervises carpenters in performance of duties (e.g., schedules, assigns, coordinates and directs work; recommends employee disciplinary action; approves leave requests; recommends policy modifications; solves technical problems); cooperates with other trades personnel regarding new construction, renovation and building maintenance.
  • Interprets blueprints to determine materials, equipment and supplies needed for carpentry projects; prepares job layouts; estimates and purchases materials needed; maintains cost, time, work and equipment records.
  • Uses hand and power tools to fabricate, repair and install cabinets, furniture, shelves, etc.; repairs and installs doors, door frames, windows, locks, etc.; makes building repairs (e.g., repairs roofs, walls, ceilings, floors, remodels offices).
  • Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  • May use various torches, related welding equipment, power tools and protective clothing and devices to weld equipment, furniture, pipes, brackets, boiler equipment, etc.; may repair and rebuild locks; makes keys and tracks issuance; may repair metal hardware (e.g., doors, jail cells, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements:
  • Two (2) years experience as a carpenter and/or other work experience which evidences a thorough knowledge of carpentry methods, tools and materials
  • basic knowledge of supervision and demonstrable ability to interpret blueprints and skill in carpentry
  • Valid driver's license issued by the state of residency. Required to participate in and adhere to all compulsory safety training and safety procedures provided by the County.
Working Conditions:
  • Prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling. Lift up to 50 lbs without material handling device. Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment: half-face respirators/dust mask, safety glasses, body harness for fall protection, earplugs/muffs and hand protection. Works with sharp or rough materials and use sharp tools and power equipment. May work outdoors and be subject to variable weather conditions.
Position Specific Qualifications:
  • Meet maximum weight requirements for ladders, personal fall protection equipment, and aerial lifts. Maximum lbs. include man and tools. Type 1A "Extra Heavy Duty Industrial Ladder" - maximum capacity of 300 lbs. Type 1AA "Special Duty Industrial Ladder" - maximum capacity of 375 lbs. Most personnel fall arrest equipment (full-body harness & lanyards) is labeled with a capacity limit of 310 lbs. Single Man Lifts - 300-350 lbs.
