We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Surgical Specialty Unit at UNM Hospitals. In this role, you will be responsible for providing direct nursing care to assigned patients, serving as a clinical leader for other staff, assuming relief charge duties when designated and promoting a positive work environment and quality patient care. You will earn compensation based on your Nursing Education and National Certifications, in addition to base pay. We offer a Sign-on Bonus and Relocation Reimbursement, as well as shift differentials for weekday nights, weekend nights, and weekend day shifts.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients
  • Work within the policies of Hospitals, Nursing division, and department
  • Implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age-specific considerations
  • Provide assistance with special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent has been obtained
  • Participate in orientation and preceptor training and evaluate new personnel
  • Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
  • Ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information
  • Answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy
  • Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards
  • Enhance professional growth and development through education programs and attending in-services, meetings, and workshops
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing program
  • Current RN licensure in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (preferred)
  • Certification in area of specialty (preferred)
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers within 30 days of hire
  • PALS certification (preferred)
  • TNCC and/or ENPC certification (preferred)
  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people
  • Must be able to work in Sig Hazard conditions (Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials requiring PPE)
