Schedule: Full Time

Shift : Night 3 12-hour shifts (6pm-6am) weekends Shifts

The role you’ll contribute:

Performs quality sleep studies for all patients under minimal supervision in order to aid physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Facilitates all aspects of study completion and reporting. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Is knowledgeable in and carries out all applicable processes of the department. Participates in the Florida Hospital performance improvement program. Performs additional duties as requested.

Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Performs quality sleep recordings by collecting, analyzing, and integrating pertinent patient history information, properly preparing the patient according to age, conducting the examination, and preparing the recording for the physician interpretation.

  • Implements appropriate interventions, including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and/or bi-level positive airway pressure (PAP) and Oxygen administration.

  • Informs the nursing supervisor and/or the physician of changes in the patient’s condition or abnormalities on the recording, when necessary.

  • Maintains supplies and equipment for patient care and maintains an orderly and efficient system for storage and retrieval of patient information.

  • Provides patient education according to established guidelines.

Quality Assurance

  • Accurately documents, posts, and charges for procedures to ensure quality standards set by the department and hospital.

  • Actively supports and participates in department and hospital quality improvement initiatives as directed.

  • Participates on process or performance improvement team and proactively initiates process improvement ideas.

  • Maintains quality of recording scores within established guidelines.

Safety and the Environment of Care

  • Adheres to hospital infection control and safety standards.

  • Ensures equipment is in good working condition and initiates appropriate contacts when repairs are required.

Meeting Attendance

  • Attends monthly staff meetings.

  • Attends other meetings as requested.

Communication/Cooperation

  • Receives and gives report clearly to communicate patient care information to provide optimal care.

  • Communicates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team to ensure high quality patient care.

  • Keeps supervisor informed and seeks assistance and direction from appropriate individuals when confronted with unfamiliar procedures and techniques, before implementing them, to ensure deliverance of safe and effective patient care.

  • Communicates with patients and family members appropriate to age and instructs them in techniques to optimize their care in the hospital, as well as after discharge.

  • Receives assignments, instructions, and guidance from supervisor and is compliant with supervisor special requests as situations dictate.

Customer Service

  • Maintains a professional relationship with all customers. Maintains the confidentiality of employees, patients, administration, and medical staff information with no infractions.

  • Displays a caring and courteous attitude.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed :

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :

· Current CPR / BLS Certification.

· Working knowledge of sleep procedures and equipment.

· Excellent communication skills.

· Ability to closely observe sleep tracing and respond appropriately to seizure activity and other abnormalities;

· Ability to prepare and calibrate equipment to determine proper functioning and make adjustments as necessary.

· Ability to apply electrodes and sensors according to published standards.

· Proficient performance of physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals.

· Working knowledge of proper positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting and Titration.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

· Computer skills, including Microsoft® Office applications

· Scoring of Studies performed to current AASM Standards

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

· Minimum six months’ polysomnography experience or successful completion of a sleep program.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • Associate’s degree or higher in healthcare science related field

  • Experience with Nihon Kohden and/or Natus equipment and software

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED :

· Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (CRPT)

· Basic Life Support (BLS)

The following statement applies to any AdventHealth Job Description that specifies under ‘Knowledge and Skills Required’ that a Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support(PALS) certification or proof of competency is required upon hire.

A new hire may begin employment provided the facility has the ability to facilitate the successful completion of the required AHA BLS program prior to any patient contact. This may be achieved using web-based training with voice-assisted manikin skills check off (ie: Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Program or Heartcode) or instructor-led training.
